The first time around, I was like “I don’t want to bother these people, so I’m just gonna be grateful for this opportunity.” Now that I’ve already completed the processes and know the team appreciates my work ethic, I can be full terror Beatrice: always making suggestions, giving feedback, contemplating design tweaks. For example, we had originally thought about making the sole marbled before realizing that the rubber we used doesn’t hold that texture well. But I don’t get this whole “she’s being forced to be pro and have colorways”.   She loves every second of it.   Pretending she wishes she was skating is just BS because she’s had plenty of time to have a part before or after she turned pro and chose not to.   Her sponsors have taught her she doesn’t need to be skating to be a successful pro skater, so why would she go skate?

I watched a dude use Sole Tech's software to whip up a new colorway, materials and all, for some eS hiking shoes in less than 5 minutes. The Sole Tech dudes we were with were actually impressed with it and said they'd make him a sample and send it to him. Not sure if it always happens that fast but it did that time.

I saw Beatrice at a grocery store in Queens yesterday. I told her how cool it was to meet her in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother her and ask her for photos or anything. She said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but she kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing her hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard her chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw her trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in her hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Ma'am, you need to pay for those first.” At first she kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, she stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, she kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

When she got out the door she threw the milky ways on the ground, grabbed her board and hit a 5050 front shuv on the curb out front. She rode away one knee down touching the board with her torso twisted and arms fully stretched out in opposite directions.

This reminds me of when I met a pro in the wild. I’ve hesitated telling this story but here it goes. In 2014, I was working at a Hot Topic store after school. Sold all kinds of stuff- chokers, stud belts, Cannibal Corpse shirts, etc. This was right off of the 101 freeway. One day, someone wearing brand new Fallens comes through the front door. Black Atreyu shirt, Monster wrist bands, black bowl cut and loved to talk about his beer can donger. You guessed right- Chris fucking Cole. I was seriously shocked it was him. He grabbed a couple of Underoath t shirts and a Nightmare Before Christmas themed studded bracelet from the small shelf in front of the register. I was telling him about how sobering it was watching his trick tips videos but that I didn’t want to bother him, assuming he just got out of divorce court and was trying to relax. He starts scanning his own studded bracelet, and says, “I’d stay on Plan B but the inteferrence is making my chakras weaken” (I don’t think that’s even a word). I then proceed to thank him for being so calm and that I didn’t mean to bother him. He closed his hand shut in my face, smiling and said, “you mean like you’re doing now? Do you even like My Chemical Romance?”. I was taken aback by the whole encounter. He ended up shoplifting the Underoath t-shirts but I let it happen. I deserved it.
