Is it weird she keeps acting like the Zabha Mid is her pro model and not a colorway.   She says “I have a shoe on Vans” and other outlets that have interviewed her make it sound like it’s a signature model

What does it feel like to debut a brand-new silhouette? This is the first time the Zahba Mid has come to market.

It almost feels like a signature model. I had a ton of involvement with the process of getting the new silhouette just right.

Right but how much does that differ from other skaters making colorways?   I think of the story Welcome in Leeds put into every aspect of their 440 and they’re definitely not settling for whatever they get.

It seems like she had more involvement than just designing a colorway.  She said she influenced the toebox to be more rounded and wanted the shoe to be a hybrid of the AVE and Half Cab.  It does look like the Zahba Low and Mid are pretty different so I’m inclined to take her word for it.  Also we know Vans doesn’t do many signature shoes (even for Reynolds) so it’s not surprising she’d be this involved and still only get a colorway out of it.

Well the average construction worker spends 90% of his day sitting on his ass complaining about liberals stealing the 2020 election so yeah she kinda does work harder than those bozos.

She works harder than construction workers?

Have you ever worked an actual job? Nevermind construction which is back breaking horrible labour.

Not everything is about physical labor in this world. Construction workers get to go home after work and just forget about their work - Beatrice never stops working. Constant mental labor. She's doing incredible work for the poc community and that needs to be recognized. There are a million guys who can hammer in a nail but not many young women out there courageous enough to stand up and be recognized for their effort like Beatrice.

I'm currently having a small group of very noisy construction workers remodel one of my tenant's upstairs bathrooms so forgive me if I'm a bit peeved about them right now.
if this is bait i gotta hand it to you, i'm impressed

if it's not then i'm sorry your lobotomy went so badly

Yeah I know what she says, but I believe it about as much as when Sheckler talked el toro.   She wanted a rounded toe because she does a lot of kickflips, which is so clear from what little footage we have of her that is so full of kickflipping

I hope those workers walk the fuck out and you end up doing their work since "not everything is about physical labor."

"incredible work for the poc community" would be putting out a fucking part in 10 years of skating as a job or at least platforming other's skating and putting other poc women skaters on the teams shes on. Instead she posts old dill and gino footage regularly for clout and doesn't bother to film if shes not on trips. I have a feeling the vans designers also let her gas herself up on the designs as they quietly do the bulk of the work. Fuck.

They did what?? Why would they even care if she was stretching the truth?  If anything, they like that narrative more.   It’s not like some designer is whistleblow on the interview and it’s going to create a huge scandal.

Her “process” was a drawing she made of a low with a completely different colorway, an emailed photo of the shoe from Vans, and a picture she took of colors she likes.

I don’t know if you’ve worked with people like her, but I’m sure a big part of the actual designers’ process was presenting ideas in a way that she thought they were her own.

Just to play devil's advocate, how do the images she shared suggest that was the entirety of what she contributed to the project?  Those posts she made about the process are basically just promotional materials about the shoe geared toward her audience.

Save for a handful of skaters, most design teams are obviously doing the vast majority of the actual work on any given shoe or colorway.  Seems like we're holding Beatrice to a different standard, because people don't appreciate her skating - but ultimately the rider is responsible for what's released under their name and in that regard, Beatrice has done quite well.

As the quotes from the Monster Children interview show, she has a very inflated sense of self.    How could you take her seriously after reading “how busy she is”

[close]

I don't know, I like her.  She's a character.  She just seems confident and stoked about the shoes she's putting out.  I can't really speak on her skating output before the injury because it is what it is, but I've torn my ACL before and I think it sucks she's not able to go out right now and respond to all the criticism she's taken recently with her skating.  Seems like she hears all of it though, so I'm excited to see what she does with the motivation.

No way I’m reading back through this classic slap dumpster fire of a thread, but some people on her make BD out to be some kind of trailblazer for WOC in the skateboarding industry, as if amazing skaters like Stephanie Person and Samaria Brevard never existed…

Don't forget the struggle of hiring workers (who don't do that hard of work since it's physical) to fix stuff for your tenants. They're so goddamn loud!

Is it weird she keeps acting like the Zabha Mid is her pro model and not a colorway.   She says “I have a shoe on Vans” and other outlets that have interviewed her make it sound like it’s a signature model

[close]

Yeah I know what she says, but I believe it about as much as when Sheckler talked el toro.   She wanted a rounded toe because she does a lot of kickflips, which is so clear from what little footage we have of her that is so full of kickflipping

Something tells me Vans corporate has vetted her claims about the genesis of the shoe before strategically pumping all of this content out to us.

She’s had plenty of time to release a part before she was injured.

Stoked about the shoes she’s putting out?   What the fuck else is she supposed to seem like at an event for her that Vans called a bunch of internet media for.

She’s confident bc no one’s ever been honest with her except anonymous strangers and she can just chalk that up to internet haters/trolls and not  have any actual introspection.

There is no internet gatekeeping.  There are fucking blind skaters that have a deeper bag of tricks than her and release more footage.    It’s not gatekeeping to expect Big Skateboarding to stick with promoting skaters based of talent AND image.   I can’t think of anyone else who was pushed for image alone

There’s no endgame - it just hurts my brain there are people that don’t even question how weird it is and just stoked for her because she’s nice.   Great.   Go eat at a restaurant where the chef has never cooked a full meal, but got to open a restaurant because they’re nice and they seem excited by the opportunity.    It’s just like some peoples baseline standards have dipped so far these days.

Beatrice doesn’t have image or talent. Say what you will about the reputation of her three major sponsors, but FA, Vans and Supreme have much more talented skaters that may have the same non-skating interests (ie tyshawn j modeling) but back up those extra curricular interests with major skill. Beatrice doesn’t present well in any of these companies’ non- skating advertising or promotional materials and she def. doesn’t exude anything but average skill as a skater. It’s weird that any of these companies sponsor her in the first place. She doesn’t seem to really vibe with anyone on these teams either. I don’t really see b roll of her in the Supreme videos like fist bumping Rowan Zorilla or anything- most of her teammates don’t seem to really like her either. They might even resent her. How could Louie L stand to get paid the same as someone who can barely kickflip down three low stairs? For anyone saying she’s nice…her interviews come off as someone who grew up with very ‘new age’ parents (stupid horoscope garbage) and was told they were the greatest child that ever lived and that she could be president etc. It’s just a sad combo of heads of businesses who want a female skater on the team at any cost and that desire causing a mediocre skater to think they are way better than they really are thus feeding their already inflated ego.
