What the fuck is Clyde's delusion in that post??

Sure, he's been around and is a legend in skating, but these "facts" are anything but. So many of these points are either wrong, illogical, or don't make sense.

Idk, maybe I'm overreacting, but it seems like he doesn't actually know whats going on in skating currently
[close]

Right?  Who are the mediocre skaters getting sponsored?   Everyone rips, it’s just a matter of its to your taste or not
[close]

Remember, he is of the opinion that shop shirts/boards/videos are competing with the rest of the industry and that’s the issue

Oh man.  The last I had heard from his opinions was an old The Skateboard Mag (or Skateboarder) where he listed off a bunch of illegal tricks as he saw fit.

He’s like Tim OConnor to me, skateboard funny men that I don’t think are funny so I saw no need to keep up, esp since he seems like he lives in whatever alt reality Alf Rawls lives in

Clyde confirming BD ain't got it:

"you don’t have to be the best skateboarder, to be an ambassador."
[close]

Exactly. It's pretty funny that he's defending her by confirming that she's more of a brand "ambassador" than a legitimate pro skater.

Well it is on his list of 10 uncomfortable truths of skateboarding. Surprised that doesn’t have its own thread, or maybe it does I haven’t checked.

clyde s always seemed insecure and ego driven to me- always had these corny rules and opinions that turn with the wind

That's my entire generation tho.

The only rules I've created that are truly important.

Don't film lip slides on ledges not even backside. If you wanna destroy your graphic hence being less good go do it on a handrail.

You're fuckin up your stats that's all.

DON'T BE MEAN TO GIRLS WHO COME AROUND THE SPOT.

And don't go try to cop weed or whatever with strange bums. You might hurt your hands.

Do not wax other peoples ledges without local permission if you're ot a local.

Don't be mean to SLAP pals no matter how foul they are. We fuckin tribe.

NYC is the number one skate destination in the world.

Way more important than California or Florida.

Especially when you look at all of New England as a suburb of the city. Which I do.

I'd argue that Sydney Australia is the second place destination. I need to go

I believe his reasoning is because Allan Gelfand (sp?) and Rodney Mullen are both Floridians to start with, then you follow that up with all the other skaters

He definitely is referring to skate history but does hometown matter really? Most Floridians had their biggest moments in CA. Reynolds, Mullen, Cairo, even Clyde. Schmidts woodshop is here. I mean, I don't exactly think CA should take that credit but its a massive claim to say FL is more important.

And being from CA Ive always noticed/felt the Anti-CA thing at times but its really just weather, the size of California's economy and the birthplace of it. Its all happenstance and really has nothing to do with the skaters. In a parallel universe, skateboarding is invented in Malaga or Dallas or somewhere warm and we all visit there or some shit. Obviously not that literal but Ive just always felt there were more non-skate reasons facilitating CA being the hub than skaters dictating it.

Did Florida really ever even have a scene? I think of EMB in those regards, and all the legendary spots that California claims.

Nevermind the entire industry at one point, and from the start being birthed there.

If we’re just pointing at influential pros, ok, Florida has sway, but I don’t know that it’s enough to validate Clyde’s claims.

Personally I don’t think it is.

Furthermore, the progression itself nearly all happened in California.

Clyde was a great skater, but if he hadn't been on 101, I doubt he'd be remembered and lauded to the same degree. Today's standard for "Legendary Skater" are very low.

Aesthetics too.

I never got the hype. The dude had bad style, all stiff and sketchy with his arms cocked all weird. Compared to guys like Gino and Kareem he was easily the worst guy on at that time.

He talks a lot of shit about legend status and what it means to have a pro board after your prime, while he does the most to suckle at the teet of the industry after being absent for like a decade. Correct me if I'm wrong but I feel like he just popped up outta nowhere in the past few years and now he's on some kinda publicity run. His whole brand is based on a know-it-all attitude, fried takes, and bad jokes that should've been put to bed thirty years ago.

Yes, but Aesthetics is far from 101, which is a legendary company.

I agree with pretty much everything else you put here though.
