seems like a fine chap all around. Loved that bit at the end about why he does it.

Love that. Ben is why I’m on this site. I started skating at 35 (turning 38 next month). It’s given me a reason to be healthier, and I love that there’s always something to work on/a way to progress.

I only cruise and do silly no-complys. And that’s fine—there are no rules. This is my version of skateboarding. More adults should start skating. You ain’t gotta be in the streets or park risking major injury 😀

When I go to Vancouver I am going to mad skate that ledge by the water, and also that skatepark that is by the water (i think its Ambleside?)
Something about having the water there is really peaceful
I would hit so many ledge lines at that spot, looks so amazing. I would be there every day like it was Love Park.

the first ledge that he skates in that video is unfortunately capped now (granite one across rock gap) but the other lower ones he skates right after are still good to go and so much fun. let me know when you're coming and i'll let you know where/show you where a ton of good spots are!

Nice, I just watched that whole video as I got ready for my weekend trip to Vancouver. Was just about to post but I am too slow clearly.

People talking negatively about him last week then he drops a video where he hasn't skated for weeks and skates a new deck/trucks/wheels and manages to do almost every flip trick in 2 tries minus the obscure ones. This is 100% a progression from his earlier videos and pretty impressive for almost any age.

Ben should go up a shoe size. I could wear 13s a year ago, now they hurt. I imagine his feet are collapsing a little. Which happens as we get older.

Yeah i think this is true...
I was always 10.5 and then i switched to 11 when I was about 30 and ever since then everything just fits. some stuff is tighter and looser by a tiny bit but its not hurting my feet and the shoes arent flying off. never feels like i could go down or up an entire size.

something that does make a big difference as well is how feet swell during summer. I find that my feet also go between a 10.5/11 depending on how long I am on my feet, and what surfaces I walk on. Before I moved to a city I was pretty much wearing only size 11, but when I first moved and was walking a lot my feet shrunk a little bit. Honestly, if people are that picky about their footwear, they really should go to a place to get their feet properly measured.

I guess the checks must have stopping coming in and etnies isn't sending him stuff anymore. hence he's gotta go after their shoe from 1994. it's like a basketball player complaining that grant hill's or ewing's retro shoes are unusable on the court. they haven't made a proper sal 23 in what seems like decades, whereas half cabs have been in production since their introduction and dunks have been around for a couple decades. there is actual demand for those two shoes, whereas these have none. it was enough of a pain to get the shoe to be close to the original, soletech isn't really in the business of "upgrading" retro models, and when they do people lose their minds.

Yes. He also has very narrow feet. He has never given a wider shoe a good review.

480 fit wider than Dunks and he gave both positive reviews and said he could skate 480 the rest of his life.

eh i've been following his stuff since he was rocking the adidas sweatpants in clips but i have a hard time trusting his judgment since that whole vans ave thing.

also i don't know what people mean by "those shoes hurt my feet", like i see those kinds of comments a lot, especially on here, ESPECIALLY if it's moonordie and the shoes aren't nbs, but i really have no idea what it means, like is the shoe too tight or something? i've never had a pair of shoes that fit me AND hurt my feet at the same time except this pair of one stars that had some weird stitching or seam at the collar and it rubbed on my ankle to the point where it really did hurt to walk in them (didn't even skate them because of it) even though the shoe itself fit me well, but other than that i don't think i've ever had something similar happen. it was a defect and defects happen from time to time, but i don't believe that you keep getting defective shoes all the time lol

I almost pulled the trigger on those. I wanted them in baby blue tho as that was the colorway I rocked back in the day but they do not seem to have reissued it.

The other shoe I loved most back then was the Duffs KCK's but it seems the Duffs KCK's reissue sucked as well. https://www.slapmagazine.com/index.php?topic=98634.0

Am I imagining things or did eS re-released the OG Accel in a slightly slimmer profile, closer to the one we loved in the 2000s and right between the OG and Slim. Would have loved to give those a shot but if Soletech didn't do QC on the Sal 23 I don't have high hopes for the Accel.

I think they mean that when they're wearing the shoes... it hurts their feet.  :o

i think shoes did just suck back then compared to now. wheels were ass. trucks mostly sucked.

even skaters were shit. Carlsberg gap is like a 12-14 stair distance at most (maybe even less than that, i think its actually shorter than the 11 set thats beside it). no one could backside flip that thing for years, it took tons of pros out (jeremy wray bs heelflipped it in the 90s though). surely reynolds, greco, tons of top pros must have been to it... then, my man Chris Lambert handled it, only for it to be buried in Ryan Gallants shared part section of the DC Video.

People started backside flipping HUGE shit after that, Reynolds did Wallenberg, Dee did Hollywood High. tons of other insane ones have went down from tyshawn and sheckler as well. cody mc had some beast ones too. it is actually insane how much better people are now than they were when i started skating when you really think about it. there was just a few guys like daewon that had already sort of figured shit out. there was a MASSIVE skill gap in pro skaters.

I think it's coming out soon, but they softlaunched it on a few colorways. The accel has been around for a very very long time, and they've kind of always been making it. even without the slimmer profile, it's still a good shoe. I wouldn't really listen to ben on this one.

I could be wrong but I think some of the DC shoes from the 90s were pretty high quality and comfortable. but I do think a lot of people are looking through rose tinted glasses. I mean if you're wearing a shoe that came out 30 years ago, it's obviously not going to hold up. but I wouldn't say that simply jumping huge obstacles is the hallmark of high skill. equipment back then sucked big time.
