These sales you guys are having in Aus are fucking wild. Shit's so expensive in NZ it's insane.

I bought a girl deck from new Zealand last year and got grip and free shipping to Aus for like a $100 aud
Was a decent deal

I know this isn't the place but Aussies don't seem to use the classifieds section on slap

So Apologies,  however

I have two brand new sets of indy ti's (144 and 149) im wanting to sell cheap
If any aussie pals after a deal hit me up.

I've had most luck on gumtree from Dads usually
Ebay i find i have to make shit ridiculously cheap to get a hit

Whatever money I do get from selling used shit always gets spent at skateshops anyway

I have bought quite a few bargains from eBay, Gumtree and even a couple from Facebook Marketplace, but I have also been dicked around a whole lot too, so I always take care buying and usually don't think it worth selling on any of those unless I don't mind it going for cheap or have some items that really get people going, eg one board had a few bidders that took it up over what I was expecting, but almost everything else either didn't sell or only had low offers, so I usually don't try to sell anything other than face to face now.

I think the hardest thing for anyone looking to sell is they usually have price and then post costs, which didn't work out so well with most online shops having free shipping and more often than not having discount codes or specials so it usually worked out a better deal to buy from a shop and not a private seller.

Although there have still been some very good sales on of late, I do think a lot of the really good specials are drying up a bit and it is getting harder to find some really cheap product the way it was a month or more ago.

Also prices are going up and up and up, so even with discount codes, quite often I am thinking I don't really need any more Spitfire wheels at the new price of $80 to $90 or whatever else is going, eg Indy trucks could often be found for $70 but now just under $100 or other things like decks sometimes around $60 to $70 now at least $100 and more often $130 and that is on sale, with RRP now at $150 or more.

Not complaining - I am set, but I know for anyone else looking to buy or sell, it can be a pain and I think it is only going to get more difficult for some people in some places.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I’ve asked this before in a different thread, but how does anyone afford to get into skating down there? I know at the end of the day you are all doing fine from a quality of life standpoint, but this still breaks my heart. One of my favorite things about skateboarding has always been the relatively low price of entry, but I could totally see some families passing on buying a “real” board and their kid moving on to a different hobby.

Let me know if there’s anything a dumb yankee can do for you guys.

You got the wrong idea, look at nz and aus min wage, you'd have to be an absolute bum not to be able to afford skate shit here

Yeah the sentiment is nice but stuff down here isn’t as drastically priced as Americans think.

I bit on those sale boards I posted and they were $54. That’s affordable af, and I don’t even have that good of a job

Yeah, once you convert AUD to USD and realize that in general Australian wages are a bit better for employees than in the USA it's not as bad as it looks. Stuff is a little bit more expensive but not unattainable for most people. Domestic board brands like Pass Port sell their decks for a bit cheaper than the big American brands too.

I definitely remember skating my boards and shoes until they were absolutely thrashed as a kid but I'm pretty sure kids in NA do that as well.

I live in California now so whenever I go back I usually try to bring a few shop decks home for the couple of mates I have that still skate, but it's not like I'm bringing clean water to malnourished kids in Africa or anything

Minimum wage is up to nearly $22 but Spitfires are up to nearly $100. I think it's affecting more people than absolute bums. It's still def doable tho.
We had it good for a while maybe between like 2010-2015 and weirdly some stuff is cheaper here than overseas
At different times things go from being pretty expensive to pretty cheap for no real reason. In the early 00s dunks cost like twice as much as they do now. DC had a while where their expensive shoes were coming out at $100 while prods were like $170 but in the us they were the same.
I got into skating in the late 90s and didn't come from money and have no idea how I did it. If I had to do it over I doubt I'd be able to minimum wage was not even half what it is now and shit was even more expensive.

I think the cost is another reason why Aus has a hundred times the amount of scooter riders than anywhere else on the planet too. I think you can get an ok scooter for like $60. So kids want to be at the skatepark but their parents just buy them the cheaper thing

Skating in australia was sick in the 2008 recession because Australia's economy stayed afloat while the US dollar tanked, making our dollar pretty much equal to the USD but with higher wages here! Bought so much gear off CCS and Skatewarehouse in this period, I'm sure everyone else here remembers this time of plentiful decks and shoes

There was also PSC going out of business so basically for a year just go as often as possible and stock up on as much shit that was marked down to like 40%. Pauls warehouse would also have like waist high piles of skate shoes so many days skating involved going to multiple outlets (or maybe this was a little later)

Yeah minimum wage is OK etc here in NZ but FA boards sell at my local shop for $210 for top tier, some go for $190.

Oddly I feel trucks are comparatively cheap at $120 for Indys.

I don't buy shoes at full price, just off our version of Gumtree, Trade Me, and usually snag Cons for about $40 new.

Guess I'd feel bad about not supporting a local shop but Auckland doesn't really have a core skate shop at all.

I lived in Sydney for a while and prices were way better / in general better buying power over there.

Anyway not trying to rant too much. Really the difference here is I just make shit last longer.

Just had a quick look on surfstitch got some boards discounted and the shoes seems to have some good deals. Tiago 1010 $130 instead of $200, tyshawns $95 from $160, I think Marana were like $65 from $140 and bunch of other vans, Nike, Adidas, DC, nb etc

Some really good deals have come and gone but I had been a bit lazy in putting anything up here (sorry).

A few current sales:

OCD has 25% off sale, automatically added in cart.

https://www.ocdskateshop.com.au/collections/sale

Things like Indy mids, all sizes down under $60 and Antihero Grosso shaped decks down under $75 just as examples, but quite a few decent deals there.

Everyone else is doing some pretty solid deals, especially coming up to end of financial year, so Surfstitch as always and definitely Surf Dive Ski have a lot of good stuff on clearance, depending on what you are after, eg SDS has Element BBS boards around $50 each, 8.0, 8.25, 8.5 and the shaped 9.25 boards, Element completes down to $30 or so, which can be good for beginners or parts for others.

https://www.sds.com.au/sale/boardstore/skate

Other places have had 20% to 25% off the whole shop that I have seen, nothing specific on sale with those ones, but cheaper product anyway from Skate Connection, Kick Push, etc.

I also forgot Vans online (and outlets) have some decent enough shoes on clearance, skate and regular lines, of which I picked up a few for under $50 each.  Most of the Skate range have limited sizes or weird colours, but a pair of Skate eras for $29.99, or even Rowans for $39.99 were worth a mention.

https://www.vans.com.au/shop/sale/mens-sale

The outlets and clearance places / DFO and Harbourtowns have some really good deals up to the end of the month too.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

I'm in NZ and I've never bought a deck for more than $160... Damn those prices are outlandish.

I guess Cheapskates is the closest we get to a "core" skateboard store in Akl. Boardertown and Empire have gone with the Hyperride model of business. Maybe Trainers is more "core".

Sometimes I wonder how shops still stay afloat.

Boardworld have a fairly significant range of discounted product, good discounts too, not just a little off here or there, so you could easily pick up some good deals on decks, trucks, wheels, etc.

Not everything, but definitely enough to make a significant saving, eg DLX and other pro boards around $90, wheels around $52, trucks around $70 just for starters.

More of a PSA for Oz heads, but OCD has a full size run of the black white dunks. Guessing SB’s might not sell out as much now, so maybe this isn’t even a big deal and I’m linking to a $170 show in the sale thread.

I’m not trying to high jack this thread.

I hope y’all enjoy the Bledisloe cup this weekend.

I’m struggling find a place to watch it in the states that isn’t crazy expensive. So if anyone knows a streaming site that’s preferably free. Please share. If not. Sorry for interrupting.

Not 100% sure but my best guess would be trying the 9Now App or a free trial of Kayo (web or App) and run them with a VPN set to Oz.

Just saw that email when I went online too.

30% off everything, excluding new arrivals and gift cards, so that is always going to be good.

Discount added to cart and I didn't see any mention of it on the site itself either, so it might be more just email only info.

On another note, I saw they had some new shop boards in 8.75 with 14.25 wb and info says from Spain, so they have HLC wood now, which is very interesting.  I think they measure with the concave, as they have it listed as 32.5 long, but HLC boards are usually 32.  Their other shop boards which I had bought in the past were normal length 32, listed as 32.5 as well, just in case anyone is thrown off by the long measurement for those boards.

https://www.ocdskateshop.com.au/products/ocd-keys-8-75-skateboard-deck-1

Edit:

They have them in 8.0, 8.25, 8.5 and 8.75 sizes on HLC wood and some older Generator boards in 8.125 and 8.375.

^^ I always overlook shop boards,  the 8 has the dimensions I like

according to the woodshop thread  ;) and the brands listed for HLC
doesn't look like I've ever skated a deck from HLC woodshop

The only ones I know for sure are Plan B boards, of which I have seen quite a few and skated a couple just having a go on other people's setups, when they offered.

Decent wood, medium (some would say mellow) concave depending on what you are used to and good boards.

All the other sizes besides 8.75 are included in the 30% off too, so they come down to $55 or something.

Worth having a go at them anyway, I would think.

I have a couple of sets of Indy mids in the cart, also down to $55 a set, more just to have or put on setups, but there are quite a few extra good deals on OCD, especially in the sale section.

Straight from the listing:

OCD - Keys 8.0 Skateboard Deck

European Pro Wood
Made in Spain
Mellow Concave

WIDTH
8.0
LENGTH
31.5
WHEEL BASE
14.0

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.
