the current trend of oldies music in video parts is some of the worst, everything about it is cheap, like yeah man that oldies song sure gets me psyched to go grab my board
you must have started skating 2 months ago if you think oldies in videos is a “current trend”
fr, I remember being a kid just getting into skating years back & hating the oldies songs. Funny how I did a 180 & now love all those songs
What even is oldies these days?
Tangentially related, seeing as Hudson Hawk is dating Frank’n’Beans Cobain: Nirvana sucked.
I associate the term "oldies" with Motown (The Temptations, The Supremes, The Miracles, etc.) of the 60's and 70's along with the doo wop of the 50's. Growing up in southern California, there were several stations that played these types of songs (K-Earth 101, Kola 99.9, etc) and now those stations have all switched to playing classic rock along with 80's and 90's songs.
So the definitions of what constitutes oldies has shifted over time. With that said, I'm definitely not mad when I hear an oldies track in a skate video when its done right. But I do understand why some people would be put off by it.
Oh word. I like a lot of motown, soul, blues, funk, and some of the 50’s-70’s stuff, too. I can see both sides.
What does it feel like to be so, so wrong? Does it itch, or like, is there a burning sensation?
Is it accompanied by fever, body aches or oily discharge?
No, but there is some discolouration and a pungent vinegar-like odour. Honestly, I didn’t realize this was that unpopular of an opinion until I saw a teenager spray paint “real music died with Kurt” on a skatepark bank. But here’s something we can all agree on: with the exception of ‘immigrant song,’ Led Zeppelin also sucks.
(Art is subjective. There’s probably stuff that I live that you think is crap. There’s also likely stuff that we both agree is great, and other stuff we both think sucks.)
