thrasher's latest clipper contest was dumb and i kinda think those contests suck in general - just a bunch of randoms doing ABD tricks or one-downs that you'll never really remember and then a handful of guys like yuto or miles playing the SOTY game by doing an impressive trick in a thrasher contest instead of saving it for a video part where it'll be properly immortalized

has playing skate always been super prevalent and i've just been too socially maladjusted to have been involved or has it become more commonplace in the last ~10 years? like i know its been around forever but the influx of strangers coming up and asking me to play skate has increased significantly recently

The popularity of S.K.A.T.E has probably risen proportional to BatB.

i find it kind of annoying it has been around for so many years and nobody has taken it to a serious competition level. berries is too lax with the rules. Games of skate should be in the olympics since there's an actual score to keep track of, with very strict judging. maybe ban double flips and pressure flips if that's what people want less of, could get more pros interested if they don't have to have clown tricks on lock. modify the way things are done a bit, like if someone gets skunked really quickly do best 2 out of 3. I'd love to watch something like that. Generally though the public views skateboarding as a spectacle more than a sport though so i get why runs are the norm.

Maite is really enjoyable

I could see the appeal with her Element part from a couple years ago. Maybe it was the song. But I think she’s one of the many skaters that tried way harder before getting a board.

it's a hard trick and not too many skaters can do them on command, so it's not normalized.  Dashawn is one of the first guys that I've seen do them all the time.

With toe-side tricks there’s a flick. There’s more room to manipulate the speed or style or rotation on a 360 flip. Whereas a laser heel, in my opinion, is a fling of the heel and a prayer. You have to kick out in a way that is not aesthetically appealing.

Not a professor but switch frontside is easier to wind up and kind of throw it in front of you, switch backside is more blind.

I just mean as opposed to frontside. Switch frontside bigspins feel really natural for me where a frontside bigspin is super awkward.

since you brought it up, switch backside is by far the most difficult way for me to spin.
