BILL WEISS OF DWINDLE
« on: January 12, 2023, 07:59:37 PM »
Sad day. After 19 years running Blind, forming Madness and discovering so many talented skaters.
The blind reaper finally came calling and they fired him

Canceling team salaries, layoffs and firings.
Dwindle is a dumpster fire.

i guess this confirms the reason behind the Enjoi exodus. i was never really fan of modern almost/blind, but it's a shame regardless

Seems like another dumb move to me, but I assume this investment company knows a lot more about running a core brand into the ground than I do.

I'm guessing they figure most their money is made off logo boards in mall surf stores so they don't need pro skaters or team managers or anyone connected to skateboarding in general

Yeah, see? Right there, I’d fuck that up and be like “let’s keep all these cool guys around, they seem to know a lot about skateboarding.”

It’s pretty whack, also poor alex can never seem to catch a break. Seems like whenever he gets comfy some shit happens.

I fell like the madness team could easily up and move to a new brand.

Curious to see what happens with monarch

Heres hoping Monarch can survive this turbulent time

The guys at Mostly Skateboarding podcast had a good prediction: the investment company will axe most brands but keep Monarch around because they have the most Olympians

I doubt 90% of the guys on Blind / Almost / Darkstar / Enjoi will be able to find sponsors if these companies go under, Dwindle companies are the B-leagues for talented skaters with limited market appeal. It's worrying when brands don't list their teams on their website.

I could see TJ Rogers on Primitive but they may make him change up his wardrobe to suit their aesthetic. And they recently let Marek go too.

At least Lutzka still has his Harley Davidson, fedora and movie money.

Edit: Forgot about Sora and Jake Ilardi on Blind

could you imagine kooking yourself out of the industry to get darkstar's walmart money and then having to return to the industry, hat in hand, and have to try to get a real sponsor? i feel like a lot of them are just going to go heart supply or nothing. target is an upgrade after all

I think Monarch only has two Olympians same as blind but it does seem the most like it's just run by an investment company from the start anyway

They'll blend them into one olympic brand/team and try one last time. If Paris doesn't get them podium domination, they'll sell the whole thing off and move on.

Edit: Relooking at this if they do get podium domination it would give them the chance to sell it for even more. Either way, they'll sell it all off after Paris.

100% nobody knows better.

But dont blame the corpo who buy in…
Blame the skaters who sell out - Rocco, Mullen, they sold back in the days to Globe? Right?
Some investor Bravo sports bought Globe and with Globe world industry and dwindle?

The have bought also all the brand rights - like madness and enjoy?
Or can Madness / enjoy continuous there business under a different distribution?

What is with DSM (Douglas Street Manufacturing) Woodshop in China - it’s also sold to Globe - or it’s still owned by Rocco/ Mullen - and they still earn money with any board sold at Walmart?
Who can enlighten me with the real business facts?

I am sorry for Bill - he was keeping it real - as much as he coud - and I like what he have done with Madness.

I think it was:
Dwindle to Globe
Globe to Transom (which owns Bravo Sports) - https://shop-eat-surf.com/2019/08/ses-exclusive-steve-lake-and-bod-boyle-talk-dwindle-acquisition/

DSM is the manufacturing arm of Dwindle distribution run out of China, I think they will continue to press boards if they decide to keep selling them at Walmart since they have vertical integration there (wheels, trucks, decks, hardware, bearings, griptape).

How long did that last for? Unfortunately I remember cliche being a dumb collab, budget dwindle complete brand for a while before they let people go. Maybe it all started going downhill by adding human McNugget Joey b
