i watched segments of Dill's/ave's parts as per your request and i could give less fucks. i hate their music and could care less about their legacy that you imply is important

i dont feel the need to "educate myself" further on the skaters who built a brand when theyre not even the reason i like the brand

I'm vehemently opposed to what you're saying here but I can't help but respect the fact that you did the due diligence. I can't speak for certainty for those outside my friend group, but from what I noticed I think as skateboarding grows and ages there's proportionally less younger skaters giving credence to its history and legacy figures. Like I get it, not everyone is as massive a nerd, but there's so much good skating having occurred over the past couple decades that a lot of people simply don't bother with. I think also that learning to appreciate the history of how something came to be is crucial to developing a deeper love for it. Like watching Dill's part in Photo and appreciating it not only by itself but in context of the time and place it came out at gives me more nerd enthusiasm than anything I can do at the skatepark.

Looking back is something done less and less with every generation even outside of skateboarding. When we were kids we'd watch star wars all the time even tho it was 25 years old. Then the next gen would just watch it's 00s movies and now kids don't even look back to the more recent films because there's new shows every other week.
Same shit with skating no time to look up the VHS hits when there's new clips on insta every minute

Either way, chances of me finding something like girl’s goldfish video on my own is pretty slim in this age because, like you said, new clips every minute so lots of history gets buried. I was given a mini tv with a vhs player in it and some old videos a few years ago by someone who cared. Really broadened my scope of things and didn’t make me feel less than for not knowing. What’s your favorite part in the firm can’t stop?

We only have a limited amount of time on this earth and inside that an even further limited amount of time to spend nerding out on skateboarding, assuming you're an adult with a job and maybe a serious gf/wife and kids. I know which classic skaters I enjoy watching and maybe if I get bored one day I'll watch a Jason Dill part or something but until then I'm just going to watch skating that gets me stoked and spend most of the limited free time I do have actually skating.

Past the surface of the classic vids there's also just sooo much history from the 90s/early 2000s that it's like, fuck, where do you even start? And how much of it is going to be worth watching, and how much of it is going to be the forgettable Riley Hawks of that era?

Idk that's just my opinion, I'm all for knowing a bit of skate history but if you don't care then fuck it, it's your life and you're still just as much of a skater as the next guy
