As someone who loved the Hsu mids I've come close to buying the Pillar many times but the little rubber ollie patch just kills it for me. It's such a small thing to ruin a shoe for me, I feel petty about it but it just seems so unnecessary.

I got the Spanky G6 though and had a few sessions with them, loving them so far. Very excited for the high version, even if it won't have the same G6 sole.

Hsu mids were my favorite shoe for a long time and for some reason never made the comparison to the Pillar, I think that patch is why. It’s not a dealbreaker for me but I’d like a version without it

Emericatm, is there really a demand out there for rubber toe caps or ollie patches?  From team riders or consumers?  I think the thin rubber below the suede always does the trick.  Thanks for always breaking this stuff down.

I've had the Pillar and they were actually even better than I expected as I'm more a low top guy myself but definitely recommend them especially if you're need of something with more ankle support. That shoe actually has a lot of features from the G6 insole, added rubber heel hit to keep it's shape and the perforated holes for breathability.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure as the old designer added those on there as extra durability features. Some people loved it though as it made their shoes last longer and then on a shoe like the Provost G6 it was blended in to the upper color so you got extra durability without having to look at some huge ollie guard. As mentioned above, I'm a simple shoe person and loved the Provost G6 (even though I am not a huge fan of ollie guards) yet it's one of my favorite shoes out at the moment due to a simple slim profile and look.

Maybe I'll try them out once I go through these Spankys. They do look much better when the ollie patch is the same color as the upper like this colorway: https://emerica.com/collections/team-shoes/products/pillar-grey-purple-6101000132-363

If you liked the Hsu mids there is a new company out called opus that is a former emerica employee who helped  designed that particular model, he has a black suede Hsu-ish mid top in his line up that looks pretty good, he also has a suede slip in that looks very interesting too, and they are supposedly reasonably priced as well

Just curious, what is the design research process like? I think we all naively assume "Well I don't like ollie guards so clearly Emerica doesn't understand what people want", but that probably isn't the case. I know some other shoe companies like Asics and NB take design feedback from non-pros and non-sponsored riders and wondered what Emerica does in this regard?

Just want to clarify, this is a sample pair and not final production pair?? Is there gonna be anyway to get my hands on a pair with the sole or a shoe with the sole anytime soon??

Confirming that is indeed just a sample pair. Regarding that sole, not totally sure yet but we are working on some new soles for future designs right now.

Got a pair of Figgy's that fit 2nd try, but they got these glue stains - what do you think, give up or deal with it? Keep in mind this shoe retails for $95 :P

Man I’ve had glue stains like that on adidas and the last pair of Nike Brsb ( honestly not as well made looking as the first pair I had)  to lakai to emerica to new balance. It’s fine they’re fine. Skate them. I honestly though seeing glue was just common place now.

Even Nike Dunks and Jordan’s have glue marks. Don’t sweat it. Keep ‘em.
Thanks y’all. It’s been fun.

That part of the shoe is gonna get worn down by griptape anyway

Update: Figgy G6 skate really good btw - if you like the g6 sole. After 30 min they felt broken in and comfortable with a really good flick, just like the old Figgy.

Posted this previously in either this thread or the upcoming shoe thread but Figgy really wanted something that's skate able right out of the box and with the best parts of the first Figueroa and Figgy Dose to create the Figgy G6.]

Pretty sure the Emerica site has the charcoal and light blue Spanky G6 available, which are both great. I love the wine colour too, I got lucky and managed to get a couple of pairs of those from Welcome here in the U.K.

Interesting the pair in the trick image look trashed… crazy dirty, Ollie hole, ripped laces already been replaced once. . And he changed into a fresh pair for the model shot

Don’t look so bad on foot in the back smith. But some of the angles of the other shots aren’t doing it for me

White dirty and thrashed shoes almost always look good IMO. This is no exception.
