The design is good. But the product looks cheap in that pic.

Good looking shoe.  $10 cheaper than the MJ, and this actually has a midsole and what they are calling the heel pod.

How is the sizing on these? i have the spanky g6 and the wino cup g6 in my normal size and they are a tad too small. Was hoping the Spanky hi would run big

TTS, maybe even a little roomy. I didn’t have any trouble with the wino but these feel a bit looser.

My feet are wide-ish but I was able to rock them TTS with a little break in period that threatened to blister my bunions but thankfully they loosened up. 1/2 size up may have been a little better for me, but I also swapped in some Superfeet run insoles which may have taken up a small amount more space in the shoe than the stock insoles.

I grabbed a pair, they don't have a full length midsole despite what the product description says.  Just the EVA foam section under the heel.  Insole is... fine its EVA, thicker than you get with an Accel but nothing special.

Overall construction feels good though and the shoe looks and fits great FWIW

A little miffed about the lack of a full length midsole but as long as the heel is covered I'm fine with it to skate in.

This may be a dumb question, but how can you tell the midsole doesn’t run the full length of the shoe without it being cut in half? Just going by feel? Been trying to expand my technical knowledge of shoes

Sure if you take the insole out underneath that you can run your finger in there and feel the rubber ribs typical of an egg crate style rubber midsole.  You can also see through the lasting material if it is thin enough and see the ribs.

Here's a pic you can actually see the ribs through the lasting material and the "heel pod" they have is green so super noticable color difference

As soon as I got them I pulled the insole out to see how thick the midsole was cause you can never fully tell by the outsole and I was immediately pissed off.  I'll skate this pair because at least the heel is foam so impact wise it should be fine.  It's just such a cop out cheap ass move. Barring them ending up skating so well I have no choice I'll never buy another pair again.

Fuck. Huge bummer indeed, was looking forward to skating these. That egg crate shit ends up making my knees hurt, I skated the heretic when that came out and couldn’t continue without putting in a thicker insole

I now have about 3 hours of skating on the Mutes and I really like how they skate. But even after a few hours you can see the egg crate from the sole being imprinted on the insole.  I'm pretty light at 150 pounds and I'm not skating any big drops and it's still very apparent.

Gonna see if I can maybe slide a piece of paperboard under the insole to spread the load.

Heel section with foam is excellent, real shame the whole shoe didn't have this as the midsole.

+infodump incoming+

That is a 28 inch Slingerland from the late 50s.  It's a big mystery, I assume its a marching band bass drum but it has no marching harness hardware or holes for them, no drum kit hardware holes/spurs, or any indication it had clamp on spurs.  It mainly just sits there and looks pretty because its too damn big to use with a kit comfortably.  I saved it from someone who was gonna trash it like 10 years ago.

I love any old drum. Those old marching bass drums are neat. A shame someone would try tossing it. Nice find!

Yeah bummer, I'll be skipping these. I need all the foam I can get.

Fuck. Huge bummer indeed, was looking forward to skating these. That egg crate shit ends up making my knees hurt, I skated the heretic when that came out and couldn’t continue without putting in a thicker insole

Wow, you’ll are acting like it’s the end of the world, go to Walmart and get some good insoles if that’s the case

It's not about the impact absorption or anything like that it's misleading product descriptions and a lower quality product being there is no midsole.

Plus a good quality insole will not make up for how this type of construction leads to pressure points under foot, premature failures of insoles because of those pressure points.

The design is good. But the product looks cheap in that pic.

Honestly these look great

Yeah these are sick. Will grab a vegan cw if they put one out.

Good looking shoe.  $10 cheaper than the MJ, and this actually has a midsole and what they are calling the heel pod.

Thanks for the pic and explanation! Only on Slap can you find this level of nerdery and expertise  :)

Second time Emerica has done a bait and switch with product descriptions and actually super lame.

I also wanted to say the super cliché support your local skateshop. I know Emerica isn’t carried many places anymore but go to your local and nerd out about shoes. I know there’s probably an employee there that would love to chat (I used to be one) and as much as I love slap, skateshops are (or should be) the core of skate nerdery and expertise.

Little typo in the title and added the "lottie"
These look good in person, so light.
