I had a brief DM chat with a former Emerica employee who was selling old samples in his Insta story. I asked about the cup sole slip-on. Apparently, last he heard, they were discontinued along with the other pour-in G6 shoes. Reason being the technology to make them is too expensive. I'm bummed because there's no other cup sole slip-ons on the market that I'm aware of, and those Emericas were the most comfortable shoes I've ever skated.

Spanky HI’s are my new favorite shoe. Skated three sessions in them so far and they have no disappointed. Already picked up the Lottie’s pair, can’t wait for more colors to drop
[close]

The Lotties collab is the last colourway. I’d grab as many pairs of the navy, black/tan and Lotties as you can!

Goddamnit. So the white suede ones are cancelled?

Looks that way, yeah.

No. This photo is a really old sample before the shoe was finished.

That makes sense.  The photos from pages back are from a catalog so I would have thought that was pretty final

Between discontinuing the proprietary foam that made their shoes moderately decent, failing to even get good reviews from YouTubers, and generally turning out very blah designs that look incredibly generic and apparently don't even have decent padding for a chunky shoe, can the mods just re name this "disappointment containment thread". The lengths people wanna go to to keep this brand alive is insane.

I'm out of the loop with this stuff. My bad.

Didn't realise this was all old news either. I stocked up on a few pairs of the slip-cups when it seemed like they were getting harder to find a while back.

I whined in the “widest toe box “ thread about my jacked up right foot.  Tried on different things in my local mainly trying to see which would not squeeze my forefoot the most on my right foot.

Going in I was aiming to try NB shoes.  As much as people love those shoes, they just don’t work for me.  Don’t last long at all in them, just in the store alone.  They squeeze in the wrong spots for me.

Anyway I looked at the Hoban knowing nothing about them.  OMG felt so good.  Absolutely the most comfortable fit of every thing I tried in the store out of the box.  Yeah, it’s a vulc and I am a cupsole old man but after not being able to skate for months this shoe let me push around for 20 minutes with no new pain.  I have never owned an Emerica shoe and this thread and others on slap have educated me on the overall downfall of the company.  But the Hoban is a god send for my fucked up foot.

I overall have an average foot for a size 12.  Most shoes fit me in that size range. Tyshawn’s, Dunks, vans, e.t.c.  Exception is snowboard boots but I think most folks size down in those. Point being I may not be the best for the TTS yes or no questions.  My reason for wanting something wider has to do with a right foot injury.

So yeah these feel roomy in the toe box, and solid on the heel. And pretty comfortable on the mid foot.  I am not tightening the laces super tight but they kind of feel close to a slip on with laces. Super comfy.  They feel kind of heavy compared to other shoes but that doesn’t bug me.

~2008 emerica was like last resort ab meets baker 3 and I was so fucking down

Now it just seems like they're doing less-good versions of shoes they used to do

Those og Laced, and Hermans with the cupsole that looks and acts like a vulcanized were my shit

Ksl DOS, spanky, ridgemont, Reynolds lights, etc it was a good time

I feel like they started falling off after that super sick runner-toe Westgate shoe didn't stick around for as long as I thought, and after that it seemed like the spanky g6 shoes were the top seller, now they don't seem to have that foam anymore

The industry is like, growing up together. Everyone that was 15 in 1995-2005 is like 35-45, more discerning/set in their ways and looking for comfort and nostalgia, kids want whatever is cool so they're buying Nike, converse, vans, etc

Getting bought by a snowboard company

God bless spanly

Anyways I ordered some ThirtyTwo snowboard boots, wide version, on sale for $300, usually 400-something. Nidecker cancelled my order immediately cause they have an automatic thing about not shipping to PO boxes. I was drunk and thought it was cause of a stocking error, messaged them and said I found a better deal, keep it cancelled. Boots still showed up. Not super mad about it. The first pair of free SoleTech shoes I've got since 2008 hahah
