I know he was pro and sponsored, from the Lyon skate-scene, but here is a guy I really liked when I was in my late teen years…
For the French people : Nicolas « MDV » Levet. « MDV » stands for « marre de vivre » which can stand for « tired of life ».
He had a blog in the late 00s called « hainehainehaine » basically 3x hatred ; and he and other bloggers would critic skateboarding in general - with a lot of « hot takes » and bad faith. I really liked it at the time because he didn’t spare anything or anybody. when didn’t like things like skate contests, skate-jocks, music he considered bad, what people would wear, video editing, music… he would say it out loud. He was basically the french skate scene biggest hater.
The blog réputation grew and grew, people were menacing him. Also I guess people from the French skate game got upset. He generally used very strong words… When he was criticizing Cliché the comment section got out of hand and people grew tired about the blog, and it was finally shut down, iirc.
I liked it because he was somehow daring saying out loud what people thought quietly… using very harsh words, threatening people etc. A lot of 2nd degree but a lot of guys weren’t having it. Maybe he also crossed the line on certain topics…
He stills writes articles on apropos skate mag from time to time. Still very sarcastic but now it’s kind of gimmicky…
I know he lurks one here, so cheers Nico.
