This series is off to a great start, all of the archival footage is awesome and really enjoy the civil development/urban planning aspect that’s intertwined. I think some people have a preconceived opinion of Ted being “insufferable”, but he comes off as genuine and informative in these first two vids. Hope Thrasher makes more of these.

Was gonna say they should do a China Banks one before it gets focused, but the already did.

I live for this kind of content tbh, I'm a nerdy and obsessive person so this kind of stuff is like candy to me.

Ditto. That was perfect, sans any mention of Lavar in the Hubba episode.

Ted said, if you want a trick list, that’s what the On Video doc on Hubba is for.   This is more about the utilization of public space and it’s history (I forgot the better way he phrased it)

amazing series thusfar. Agreed that the episodes could be way longer and I'd still watch them. Great job to the people involved.

This is what I appreciate about the viewpoint Ted is covering.

The pictures of the demolishing was a first for me. In addition, glad they didn’t include anything about that hubba recreation the berrics did.

I loved the videos about board graphics.

I don’t think he needs a brand, but I’d be curious to see what he would curate as his first drop of graphics for a hypothetical company

i miss the unhinged 10-slide max video length posts rambling about a kid with a chain attached to his oversized pants skating to loud shitty music. it was just a good way to start my mornings

I love this show. I like Ted too. He reminds me of the 80s skaters around Marblehead.

Did y'all know we used to skate with the singer of Crazy Town.

I was hoping to see more of Jake’s process on that kickflip fs tail. That trick still makes no sense

These are so good. As someone already mentioned, I hope they make these even longer and more in depth. The skate nostalgia thing has been done so much lately but these are so well done with history of  the spots and the architecture etc. it’s cool to learn something new about places you thought you’d heard everything about already. There’s so many legendary spots that they could really keep doing these for awhile. I hope they do.

I love when skateboarding is combined with knowledge/intelligence.

Can you think of any other vids or series that might scratch that itch?
I'm going to be grinding my teeth until the next TOL comes out.

Love Letters to Skateboarding from Grosso holds some gold. It may not be rich kid/parent articulate like Ted’s work is, but the content is on point for the inquiry when you remove the California veneer.
We need Malto to release the pic of Biebel drunk in an elevator with his wiener hanging out.

Another great episode! Those last quotes were pretty damn funny.

Bay Blocks are such a classic spot. Even here in Finland skaters saw stuff like Mike Carroll in Penal Code at the blocks and thought shit we gotta travel to SF to skate those. And they did as seen in Control's 1998 Teens 8:53 etc. , .

Pretty crazy to think about for something that "cost 1mil and looks like shit".

$1m for 2.5 miles seems like a very good price though

Jakes kickflip front tail is still "the trick" that comes to mind when I think about this spot.  Are there plans for more of these?  Can't recall all they had in the trailer..

I keep loving these episodes - he's really went deep into the archives and knows the story of the place!

...so how did Ted become a name in skateboarding? Is he a filmer or something? He's obviously capable of saying something much more interesting about spots than anyone else around.

I've done work around city planning in the SF bay, funny to hear the city say those blocks are hideous.

Skatestoppers and hostile architecture in general are the worst.

He’s a phd art historian and a legit skater who never broke into the big time, but he had photos in Thrasher and has appeared in multiple videos including a Thrasher video and 411. I think he did the first switch bs tail over the grate at the world’s fair fountain in Queens. Just one of those guys who is really good but not good enough to be big time. I don’t know the guy but that’s my read on him from following him on Instagram.

Agreed.
Not too sure where this was directed to in reference to where I’m quoted (I didn’t make a blanketed or macro statement), but agreed nonetheless.

Ah cool - that also explains why he's so knowledgeable of the architects behind the spots and the public confessions of the places. Interesting combination of knowledge!
