I love when skateboarding is combined with knowledge/intelligence.

[close]

Can you think of any other vids or series that might scratch that itch?
I'm going to be grinding my teeth until the next TOL comes out.

If you haven't watched already, Jenkem had a good spot series a few years back.

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLu4RiFW9tsSngBGkiDgNiIaH7rb4n-HIa

Less to do with the history of the spot with regards to who built it and why, but still fun series to watch.
DM me if you wanna help us out over at SkateVideoSite.com

I love anything to do with skate history and diving deep into different spots. Hope this branches out beyond California, even the US for that matter. Southbank would be a sick episode, kids were skating SB and paving the way in the 1970's - and considering it was never purpose built for skating, that's legit street skating history right there.

That bay blocks one was super interesting, must have been super sick to skate there at night with it lite up and not skate stopped.

Justin Strubing's kickflip at 2.48 should be in the conversation for greatest kickflip of all time.Vastly underrated skater.

I could not agree more Strubing rules and deserves all the shine.

Another great episode. Still no Norm Abram reference tho

Also

Mark Suciu: got a bachelors degree, reads a few books

Slap: so fucking pretentious

Ted Barrow: PhD in art history gives you a history lecture about a lump of concrete

Slap: so fucking epic

Lol

All of SLAP's seemingly contradictory contortions over Suciu can be explained with one simple fact: he's a dork

And that's okay with me! Preferable even. I mean, caring about your wheelbase and who did what on a piece of concrete is pretty fuckin dorky too. So I embrace it. Better than being another party-bro Chad. Slap is a funny place, man.

Disliking Suciu makes someone a party-bro Chad.. lol

Ted is the best. Have been loving this series so much and hope we get many more episodes.

Ted’s knowledge is shared and accessible and meant to uplift all.   Mark’s is more self-congratulatory and meant to elevate his own sense of worth

I'd love to buy Ted a beer and talk spots, and it feels like he'd be super down to do that with someone, Suciu not so much.

...so how did Ted become a name in skateboarding? Is he a filmer or something? He's obviously capable of saying something much more interesting about spots than anyone else around.
[close]

He’s a phd art historian and a legit skater who never broke into the big time, but he had photos in Thrasher and has appeared in multiple videos including a Thrasher video and 411. I think he did the first switch bs tail over the grate at the world’s fair fountain in Queens. Just one of those guys who is really good but not good enough to be big time. I don’t know the guy but that’s my read on him from following him on Instagram.
[close]

Ah cool - that also explains why he's so knowledgeable of the architects behind the spots and the public confessions of the places. Interesting combination of knowledge!

he's got a pro venture truck at least!

Also a rich kid...so going to (a good) college (that your parents pay for) isn't that much of a flex

I took a lot of art history and honestly those had my favorite teachers...haven't really met that many interesting people who majored in english literature, smart but often boring types

@Abyss1 can you link to where Suciu flexes for going to college? Sounds juicy.

Well he sounded more stoked on college than skateboarding during his nine club... Im not saying he makes everyone in the know that, its that he leaned into it when skating got to be too much for him...he even said he got accepted to a college in France

these rule and the series seems like it has legs. NYC, LA, Philly. Go for it Ted - after the feedback TS drama the fact that he found a forum to use his background and passion into a productive form of content is awesome. spreading the knowledge.

NYC - pyramid ledges, sombrero, world's fair,  con-ed, columbus park ledges, blubba, the BANKS! I'd watch 'em all!

The big gaps/stairs would be interesting to get Barrow’s architectural background on if there is any like El toro or Davis Gap

Also the cluster of spots where Miles Silvas did that long line in downtown LA could be a good one
