Do them as you like, but if you drag your bs nosegrinds hope you don’t mind me saying it looks like shit.

I still think it looks better if the tail is dragged, especially frontside. Nosegrinds should definitely be balanced though.

You mean to tell me the older boys yelled at me until I started doing parallel 5-0’s, and now I gotta relearn tweaking them out? Ugh… this is just like slappies all over again.

A frontside 5-0 needs a bit of tweak also. Parallel with the ledge looks wack and balanced even worse. It's a charge/push through anything grind not a fragile manual.

5-0 grind is on the back truck, nose grind is on the front truck. Why not call it a tail grind?

One of my favourite things is surviving a nose manual that scrapes the nose. Not trying to say that it's cool on a bs nosegrind though. But touching on a nose manual is kind of radical!

Balancing or locking in the 5.0 is two different style and feeling. Both you can do proper and both can  be stylish.

This is the interesting with basics like a 5.0 - they are kind of easy to learn, but you can work your whole life on them to improve/ master them in Speed length and style -  then everyone will notice - no mater if it’s a balanced or locked in one.
My favorite is doing them balanced on the back truck but little twisted like a back smith without dipping in.
Works very well in a mini ramp - on a curb it’s fucking difficult.

All this discussion about balanced 5s got me thinking that a sw heel to fs balanced 5 on a long ass ledge going downhill with a light little pop out would be quite buttery

Touching / scraping on any kind of manual is trash and I think we can all agree on that.

In Mark Appleyard's Sorry part (i.e. the gold standard for this conversation) he blasts a nollie kickflip nosegrind down a picnic table and granted it's probably the only surface you could ever pull this off on and yeah it's almost indistinguishable from a krooked grind but it looks fucking tasty and I'd like to see it again. Moral of the story here kids: If you're balancing your shit you're going too slow

Occasionally on a fs nosegrind my weight will be over the ledge and my nose scrapes, sort of like how you do a nosegrind on a rail. I try to balance them but sometimes they just wanna scrape along

Few things feel more magical on a skateboard than just perfectly locking into a balanced front 5-0, not struggling to balance it just sorta keeping it up with your back heel, leaning away from the ledge a bit. One of the most buttery feeling tricks you can do

Balancing front 5ohs on ledges is difficult for me.

I can't do them straight like ever and I dislike salad grinders. Which was like my second most natural grinder.
I learned them in transition as a kid and I've always been thinking they lame.  (Backside is cool)
Front feebs was my number one natural fs lock as a kid.
I learned them well before little wheels hit. I still got the mean front feeble stall on anything.

Switch would be easier as it's just a faking nose grind. Unfortunately my switch flicking foot is not as strong as it used to be. This causes a small space between the bottom of my popping foot and the board.

This almost guarantees that I will miss the lock and be splay out on top of the ledge on my back from slipping out on the unnecessary amount of Wax kids put on ledges in the post rollerblading world

Still counts but definitely feels way cooler to balance it out. I’m guilty and tend to scrape when I shuv out. People always clap for it in person, but maybe they are 2 face and say it doesn’t count behind my back.  I may need to rethink my group of friends thanks to 5-0 grinds when the tail scrapes. Don’t trust anybody slappers.

Pretty sure more than half of the people on here can’t do either variation of the trick so I’m not sure why it even matters.

I've always done my Frontside 5-0s tilted outwards and dragging, I was able to learn Frontside 5-0 to Switch crooks pretty easy that way though. My Backside 5-0s are straight and parallel to the ledge. I usually drag those too but I feel more guilty about dragging Backside than Frontside.

I've always done it this way and the homies I skate with seem to prefer the dragged and tweaked since they can't do tweaked one's. I've always sucked at manuals, so really tweaking my tricks was the only way I could do it consistently
