Every Who's Hot page from Skateboarder Magazine
« on: December 03, 2023, 07:29:49 PM »
As some of you already know, I am in the middle of a long project to digitize all of the issues of Skateboarder's 2nd print run (Summer 1997 to February/March 2013). Recently, I have begun building a page with all of the Who's Hot pages on it. There's over 450 separate pages over the 16-year run, so it will be a while until I have them all on there. Currently, I have all of them up to March 2002. I will update this thread periodically when I've uploaded more.

January 25, 2025 edit: every Who's Hot page has been added to this blog page. 460 pages of 459 skaters (Kyle Walker had two of them).

Fuck yes! This is my era of Skateboarder Mag and remember reading these religiously, a great trip down memory lane since my print versions are still at my father's house.

If anybody is interested, 4PLY (piggybacking on the hard work of SkateMediaNerd) started a shared spreadsheet that tracks the Who's Hot skaters and where are they now.

It is an open spreadsheet so if anybody wanted to contribute to fill in or update the data, go for it.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZNUpHkX-J3UoS8taGbGblH8z43IpJX8gOs7sm-aiySk/edit?usp=sharing

We are trying to track where they are now (in a word or two), are they still pro, did they start their own board brand, do they still work in skating?

Feel free to comment your name if you want credit for your contribution should an article ever come about from this.

Sick! I was wondering if 4Ply was still working on this when I first shared the list.

Wow - I remember having physical copies of the issues with the Jack Curtin and Leo Romero sections. Thanks for the throwback!

Best thing on Slap at the moment! I remember a lot of these.. I remember loving Leo’s hurricane, but not thinking his career would pan out with the sponsors he had. The heck is Team Chili??

Dylan’s gotta be the only one to pull that trick for one of these, huh? Over a gap too? Still incredible.

Des Ormeaux being deemed too complicated says a lot about about the perceived dumbness of the american customer.
I wonder if he was pressured by his sponsors to change it.
It's a beautiful name, an ormeau is an abalone in french.

Thanks for all these Blurst, lots of memories.
I still have all my issues of Skateboarder, best mag ever.

Being about the same age as him seeing Lucas come up in the french mags right before 2000 was something.
It would have been sick if he fully got on és and had a part in Menikmati.

Amazing.

Look at Dylan's answer to the attributes he'd take from 3 skaters. Arguably achieved that.
