As someone who started at 35 here’s my advice: Forget about tricks. Cruise around until it becomes second nature. Learn to throw down, how to push without putting your weight on the ground (balance on front foot), and how to properly stop.
Too many folks rush straight into tricks. You should fall in love with riding first IMHO.
And don’t get discouraged. When you see an amazing skater, it’s because they’ve spent years on their boards. Like the average 30 year old skater has been skating for 20 years. It’s not something that a lot of folks start later in life.
