This years Olympics are in Paris, unlike Tokyo there are drugs everywhere and personal use is probably not a top priority for the Gendarmerie.
(Maybe @OldieButFrenchie can shed some light on this)
A bunch of skaters should get tested positive for weed, blow, speed, MDMA etc. and we will have our bad ass image back.
technically weed can still land you in jail for the night or longer in France....but yeah cops are more concerned about the crack epidemic around Stalingrad (which is pretty close to République btw
). Not sure I answered your question, but hey I tried haha
more than a night in jail for having weed ? not sur about that. All the people I know that got caught with weed either had a fine or had to go to some kind meeting (quite expensive) about how drugs are dangerous. Never heard of anyone going to jail for weed (consumer not dealer). I know some people who got arrested and interrogated with some heroin or coke on them so they could get the dealer.
Also all those people were white, for sur could get shittier for poc
that's why I said technically. The laws about drugs have not changed since the 70's. Thankfully they are pretty much never applied by the book anymore. Since 2020 cannabis use should simply lead to a fine....Meanwhile Germany is legalizing fully.
Thanks for your replies
@OldieButFrenchie and
@dallou I am still more afraid of the Polizei than the Gendarmerie.
Every time I am driving in Germany I see so many police cars (either traffic police, Zollamt/customs, or very fast plain police cars parked next to the Autobahn on the lookout for "suspicious" people.
I got stopped and searched three times in Germany, luckily I had nothing on me those times.
But now that I am never in possesion of anything anymore I still sweat when I see Polizei. Also they quite often have border patrols, especially on the Austrian and Swiss borders.
On the other hand on the French Autoroutes I hardly
ever see any police cars and never had any border control. I have only seen police at traffic accidents, but never police cars waiting or driving around waiting to hassle random people.
I don't think they would enforce these old weed laws with all that cocaine and synthetic drugs flooding Europe right now. They probably have bigger fish to fry than somebody smoking a blunt.
