More of a hilarious Karma payback but piecing together from various threads on here it seems like J Strickland killed Tim von Werne's career because he was gay only to be robbed of his entire intellectual property a couple years later when Andrew Reynolds dumped him out of Baker after having built the brand's identity on Strickland's aesthetic. So good.
[close]

This Strickland narrative is such bullshit. He created the logo by tracing a font on paper. This doesn’t mean he owns the company. It means he is a homophobic graphic designer. Fuck that guy.

There was no wire. Clark's planet needed him.

Weeelll he made the first two videos as well that established many of the classic tropes and they're using the style he created with the font and colours to this day. Buy yeah he doesn't own a single share of that company which in his case is what makes it so satisfying

Has anyone mentioned Darius king yet
[close]

Is he the one that got mad about a sponsor (Converse?) not reposting him?

p. 3

Darius King demanding a repost from Cons

Is that the shortest skate career?

Someone mentioned a while back, but a lot of his stuff in his welcome part was abd, and the video started with a bunch of adidas (not on him though)

kinda sucks he tried to play the tm like that though

Lol. Eldee is definitely a human. He’s like a raider on horse back who’s kinda scared to do battle. Somehow he closes his eyes and swings his sword wildly and wakes up in a pile of dead orcs.

Let’s not get it twisted who would have joined his exodus from Birdhouse.   Not sure if he was speaking for himself or the part of the team that would have left with him

Considering that was the mid-late 90’s and while we can’t assume everyone would be as accepting as they would be in 2024, the threat was that the TM would leave and take the team with him (allegedly). From what I understand nobody on the team was ever named so we can’t jump to conclusions.

It was Darren Harper.
Spencer stepped in to back Stevie with a board to Darren's dome.

Apparently Darren uses rage as fuel to get him 4 hours upstate to try and fight people.

something about Stevie not wanting Darren to ride for a certain shoe brand.  Darren felt he couldn't eat. Now he gets to be "skate coach dad" with his kids at Pulaski.  Stevie still doing victory laps at JKwon

It's not hard to imagine that Greco was/is a homophobe. Reynolds? Could be. Back then, pretty much anyone was including Muska and Rowley if you wanna go by their 90s itvs in Big Brother. But it's apparently too much to ask of our scene to make pro skaters accountable for homophobia, even when it amounts to hate crimes and murder...

Have there been any/many queer skaters on Baker? Only one that comes to mind is Elissa.

And that brings us to Josh Swindell

More horrifying than hilarious. That little stint in mexican jail primed him for the big leagues.

Danny Way's career should have ended in the same cell as Swindell's.

In the Ryan Reyes thread somebody wrote Adam Alfaro focused his career by stealing an iPod at a Zumiez demo. I thought it was drugs did him in but if its the petty theft that's pretty funny. That kid throwing away his third place price at Tampa Am was pretty good too. Never heard from again. There must be some juicy stuff out there, like hooking up with the wrong woman or making the wrong joke.

Andrew Langi did the same with a laptop from a industry event, so got the boot from Flip.

Langi worked at my local shop for a bit after this all went down and he was always really chill and cool to me and my friends. From what I understand, it wasn't solely the laptop situation that ended his career, but also partying and whatnot. He's working at an airport now and seems to be enjoying life.

My ex skated back in the day there were very few women. He was among the few scumbags who knew she was taken by me, another skater, and was trying to sleaze his way into her pants, verified through texts. So ya, no surprise he got booted from the industry for stealing another skater's laptop and forgoing skating to do coke in the LA nightlife.

Great skateboarding though

The order of the list made me scratch my head. Then, I remembered the 2000s when some kid threw a fit for getting second place at Tampa Am and the death of Shane Cross.

It’s kind of true because Ali Boulala still had his name on stuff a couple years after that. I remember some ugly Etnies with cheetah print and a signature pair of Flip pants, unless that was just old gear that couldn’t move because of what he did. The fit at Tampa ended that dude’s career immediately.

I would guess they’re referencing the Swindell & Gator situations here, asShane was still alive in 2006.

Good eye, my memory of the 2000s isn’t as good as the 2010s. That list makes no sense to me. Murder should be #1. #2 should be sleeping with a team member’s wife…don’t know the story behind that or how many times it’s happened.

Always amazing how little care is spent publishing skate mags for “Sheffy” to make it to print.  Also, is there another naked vert skater besides Weiss?   His career seems long lasting

Jason Jessie posting “All lives Matter” under a few BLM account posts… especially after quite a few people went to bat for him. It was funny to see everyone quit Rollers California almost immediately and the entire account wiped from the internet.

Do Steve Schneer's naked ho-hos count?

Weiss had a long, fruitful career in the industry, as a professional skateboarder, not as much.
