That's cool and all, but I can't help but think this would be way cooler if it was still in Philly as a new DIY or skate park or some new plaza instead of going overseas. Keep it local for the locals. Cool for Sweden tho.

Sounds like you’re really struggling here.
Philly didn’t want to did they otherwise they would of been able to, which is why this happened instead.

It’s just a bummer that the only way to skate the Love Park granite is to go to Sweden or become friends with Kalis and skate his indoor plaza, both of which aren’t an option for me. It’d be cool to keep some of it in Philly is all I’m saying. I get that there isn’t the political will power to use it so it’s going to more forward thinking countries. And that’s kind of a shame is all.
[close]

Not true. Paines Park and Front Street Park have Love Park granite. Front Street has one of the fountain ledges.

FUCK paines park ong

Drove by Paines this afternoon in perfect weather. It was empty.

crazy how the skate world went from skating old DCs in homage to late nineties and early 00s skating, to fully designing a mini Love Park replica with love park granite… in Sweden lol

The nostalgia is real. I don‘t mind it, but I‘d love to also see some futurism!

Do you consider LOVE Malmö a street spot or a skate park? Does it matter?

Maybe doesn't matter, but I do think it's an interesting question. If Love park in Philly was a street spot (and it was) and you 'move' a street spot to another location, it presumably remains a street spot, even if it's moved with the intent to skate. Of course, Love wasn't exactly moved, but dismantled, with some of its parts being moved, then reconstructed. But, I don't see how that would matter. I expect people will be fine putting it in street parts.
There's some talk of making the area not open for skating for some hours, to help integrate it with the surroundings. So, unlike skate parks it's not exclusively for skateboarding. (Will people go there to have lunch? not sure.) Still, it's obviously much easier to skate than Love was (no security, for one), but the fact that a spot isn't a bust doesn't make it a non-street spot.

If it's not in the streets, it's not street.

If they don't dump a couple gallons of bum piss in the corners and let it bake in the hot sun, it'll never be legit.

The Ship of Theseus

Sort of, but not really. That would be, if all the parts of LOVE were replaced, would it still the same LOVE?

The Malmo thing is mainly about whether the intent behind rebuilding a street spot affects its being a street spot.

Also need a bum or a rando sitting on atleast one of the ledges
Quoting another poster without commenting anything yourself is the most annoying form of virtue signaling on the internet IMO. Just so lazy.

Technically a skatepark, but I would be more ok with filming here than most other parks.

European skate architecture is really top notch imo.

They way they work it into multi use areas to blend things together really helps tune down some of the inherent kookiness of skateparks.

I also think it’s lame they Cherry picked stuff from love so a bunch of white kids from Sweden can cosplay like they are urban skaters, we get enough of that from suciu, laboratory grown ledge skaters are wack and they should be ashamed of themselves, also if im recreating love, I’m rebuilding the levels, call yourselves fans and you didn’t even recreate the correct section, fucking lame as shit

I mean… they didn’t have do ANY of it, but they did; we really wanna kick they dicks in for building a nice plaza in tribute to LOVE?

The real story (for me, anyways) in all this was that, after going through such effort to preserve & transport ACTUAL marble blocks from LOVE Plaza, they wound up losing them & resorted to researching which rock quarry the marble was mined from & purchasing identical slabs from the same section of the quarry where the original LOVE blocks were cut. 🤦🏻‍♂️

I wanna play you in a game of SKATE for the right to continue talking shit on me… You think you got me?

Crazy to think Ricky Oyola is such a curmudgen that he flew to Sweden and tried to sabotage the LOVE project by depleting the supply of authentic LOVE granite.

Damn I was really invested in those slabs well being too. From the DC ad showing them stacked up to Kalis' park to this park in Sweden. The diaspora of Philly marble. I'm a little bit crushed.
