meanwhile brad's only real output is these little edits and his huf part had several tricks that were so weak, multiple people on this website could probably do them

Also come on Brad, chill the fuck out. You're the most try hard dude in Miami with you're head to toe expensive vintage gear even tho you have a paying clothing sponsor. Ryan is far more genuine, entertaining and has more originality than your fake Levi Silvertab persona, get over yourself. Ryan>Cromer all day.

Cromer is a Spanish verb meaning to portray a victim in a manufactured scenario; to crisis-act

You guys turn into mean little girls over nothing.

If a grown man acts like a mean little girl, the only way to communicate back is as a mean little girl. No one can respond back as a grown man or woman because that’s illegal at this point. If I saw a grown man or woman providing mature feedback to a young mean girl, and I could tell they weren’t related, I would have to get involved in some capacity. It’s just not right.

The only way to communicate with an adult having a pointless hissy fit is being an adult having a corresponding hissy fit. Cromer’s law.

This thread is funny.  I love Ryan Lay as much as the next guy, but I don’t see how anyone watching his recent vids can see that and not conclude he’s completely biting Brad’s thing.  Putting some footage of hiking or whatever hippy shit you’re doing on the side doesn’t change that.  Brad has a right to feel some kind of way about it.

Damn, I never thought about it but Brad’s got a lot of Puleo in him. What Ryan is doing, according to Cromer, is the digital form of spot raping.

my house with my slappy curb is briefly seen in one of his vids, should I be worried? It's no cellar door though.

I made a couple similar edits after I saw the first one Brad did and he told me he was stoked on it. I’m workin on another one but now I gotta try not to bite too hard lmao fuck

@elbarto can you post one of your videos for us to check out?

Here’s one of the older ones, I’m hoping to have two more done tonight. Broke my ribs twice in 3 months so hadn’t really been skating much until the last couple months.

I was fully inspired by Brad’s videos, they made me actually want to go skate which is unfortunately a pretty rare feeling I get from most videos lately. I believe I put the first couple out before Ryan did any lol. I love Ryan’s videos too but you can’t deny the editing/shots plus the timing of him starting to make them was almost directly after Brad started doing his.

Actually fuck it here’s the other one too. I’ll post the new ones hopefully tonight/tomorrow when they’re done. Again, fully inspired by and biting from Cromer but it’s actually getting me outside and falling in love with skating again. I just turned 30 so I’ll take any inspiration I can get lol.

@elbarto so sick! Yeah now I’m remembering the Crad Bromer video you made from awhile back with the halfcab flip manual on that rough, slanted spot. A Pacific Northwest spot maybe?
Jesus though the parking garage one has a mean, unexpected slam on that tiny manual pad. It’s always the tricks you don’t expect to get you that beat you up the worst lol. Great stuff. That garage spot and the whole video is so good! I’m jealous of your home skatepark setup. Also nice bike btw.

Anyways, I like Brad Cromer’s YouTube and I like Ryan Lay’s YouTube. Clearly Cromer was a significant influence on Lay- but nobody owns ideas and they should consider collaborating on something.

If Austyn and Berle can bury the hatchet, surely Brad can quit whining to strangers in a comments section about a content style he didn’t invent and have a conversation with someone who considers him a friend.

First, if the only examples of shit talking are two mild screenshots, shit is blown out of proportion.

Second, Brad clearly has an actual talent for cinematography/editing. Automatically makes his edits unique. They're honestly better than a lot of the junior dp reels I see at work.

I say that as a huge fan of Ryan's, but the difference is obvious. Brad doesn't need to be insecure about copies because they don't have the eye.

Love you Ryan

Placing an iPhone is not cinematography

Definition by Brittanica: cinematography, the art and technology of motion-picture photography. It involves such techniques as the general composition of a scene; the lighting of the set or location; the choice of cameras, lenses, filters, and film stock; the camera angle and movements; and the integration of any special effects.

It's fine if you don't like what he's doing, but you are making a stupendously dumb argument here. Yes, it "encompasses" cinematagraphy even if you don't think it's pushing the envelope or because it's on an iPhone. "Bad" cinematography is still cinematography no matter what you think of the person behind the lens.

Jerry Hsu published an entire photography book shot entirely on an iPhone. iPhones have been used to shoot Indy movies as well as used in Hollywood productions. Cromer isn’t just setting his tripod down and skating, you can see hundreds of skate vloggers do just that and the difference is what makes BC stand out and receive so much attention for the way his edits are shot. He thinks about framing, lighting, composition, pace, etc.

Never said anything against iPhone usage.   This isn’t a snobbery thing, its using the correct words.  He’s a videographer.   He captures moments that are there.   He’s not adding anything to the space except himself.  If anything, you like his editing abilities

iPhone using directors like Danny Boyle or Steven Soderbergh have DPs/cinematographers who are pre-planning the shots they will create and collaborating with different departments (camera/grips/electric/art) to execute the director’s vision established storyboards/shot list.   Being a cinematographer requires a lot of knowledge about a lot of different aspects of motion picture photography.   Being a videographer, you’re shooting what’s there on the day in front of you and he does a fine job of that.

And you think this in anyway encompasses what he’s doing?

It's fine if you don't like what he's doing, but you are making a stupendously dumb argument here. Yes, it "encompasses" cinematagraphy even if you don't think it's pushing the envelope or because it's on an iPhone. "Bad" cinematography is still cinematography no matter what you think of the person behind the lens.

It’s not stupendously dumb if you know what you’re talking about.

cinematographers create shots (using such techniques as the general composition of a scene; the lighting of the set or location; the choice of cameras, lenses, filters, and film stock; the camera angle and movements; and the integration of any special effects) while videographers just capture what’s already there.   That’s what he is.   You can like how he captures it, but all he’s doing is pointing a camera and hitting record

The dictionary literally uses home movies as an example within its very definition. You're wrong.

Fan of both Ryan's and Brad's videos, but this is silly. This type of video been around on IG and YT for decades. I can share lots of local homies making similar stuff years ago, way before Brad. And to be honest, if you don't have cash to pay a filmer to follow you around for YouTube (which very few pros do) then there's really only so much variation you can do with a tripod and some b-roll shots. I hope they both keep making videos, and pop up in each others videos soon like Austin did in Elijahs part.

The genre is “slice of life” I believe it started in Japan.
