Been enjoying Cromer’s edits a little less after his little rant about copycats. Just sorta ruined the purity of it all lol.

There's something about someone trying so hard to act like they're not trying hard that's just so pretentious and annoying after a while which is totally Cromer's vibe. Then on top of that taking these silly videos so seriously that you have a rant about it, just makes you look even more pretentious. I'm team Lay on this all the way. Cromer can stick his vintage silvertabs and cockatoo shirt up his ass for all I care.

Sneaky move! Took a minute before i realized the second was Ryan Lay. I liked Brad's better but dig that Lay does a bunch of different activities. Dude's got a real nice looking jump shot. Going off recent edits, I want a Lay vs Ishod shoot out at the Bunt Jam.

I know neither invented this format but get that both caused eyebrows to raise. Cromer in the comments wasn't the best but I get why he'd be bummed; he was the first to do it well within this space. Ryan's vids started 6 months ago and he probably named the first one deliberately, as if calling the video an Ode to Scott Gall gives an out on any copy cat accusations. But realistically it isn't a hand on base. I ain't mad, both these dudes are great.

Glad I'm not the only one who's filmed some shots for my own lame version of these. My entire existence is basically B-roll sans A-roll. No egg roll.

Truly. Now his fans feel like they gotta shit on Ryan to appease him and he seems fine to let it happen. I was fine watching both guys and didn't think anything of who did what first. It's not like Brad's views were being taken away by Ryan or anything, he had his own thing going and growing well. Was just completely unnecessary and now is something I think about when I see his videos.

You're so off base it's not even funny. Usually agree with a lot of your takes but idk where you get off this time around.

Maybe if you added more info you would have a leg to stand on...

Grilled cheese > (cheese)quesadilla

Published an essay on Brad's videos to Skate Bylines today which explores their solitude, soundscapes and what they say about parasocial relationships towards professional skateboarders.

It's written by a dude called Finn Anderson who pitched it to me a while back. It was great to work on with him and we spoke to Brad for the piece too.

"Why does Cromer’s ambience and low-impact skating elicit such a reaction? What’s so inspiring about watching Cromer skate flatground alone, without a soundtrack? Why do I get hyped watching him water his lawn?", writes Finn.

"That’s one of the nice things about making these videos. It’s just me, in my truck, with my skate stuff. It’s so simple. Maybe it’s ‘therapeutic’ [to viewers], but it’s therapeutic for me. Maybe that shows naturally," says Cromer.

(Given the 12 page thread, I thought it would be of some interested here. Honoured to have a headline photo shot by Matt Price too ❤️)

It’s frustrating to no end watching people act like Brad Cromer invented the slice of life genre. It’s been around for decades. People upload videos of themselves farming, cooking, working, you name it. It’s relaxing because that’s the point of it.

I don’t think the article was saying that, it pointed out several aspects that made Brads videos good, I agree with you that he didn’t come up with the slice of life style vids, and his rant was pretty wack, but I did enjoy his output and hope he has the drive to make more
