He was incredibly talented on a skateboard. He took the courageous step to raise awareness of head trauma by revealing what he was going through. He wasn’t afraid to speak his mind about how he was treated in the past, and he had the maturity and empathy to resolve said issues later. This is only what I’ve observed; I’m sure he was even more genuine and affecting in person with those around him. Rest in peace.

What is the cause?
[close]

Why does that matter? He's gone, we lost him, it won't make anyone feel better how it happened. It took forever for MF Doom's cause of death to be released and there was so much speculation it was drug related or suicide but it turned out to be a horrible reaction to blood pressure medication. I read about that and realized it wouldn't have changed anything if he was massacred by Indonesian pirates.
[close]

Oh get a grip. It’s normal for humans to be curious about things like this. Plus, if it can bring awareness to head injuries then even better people know. Save your virtual signaling for some other forum
[close]

There's no virtue signaling going on here. I didn't know he was having seizures from head injuries and get that talking about it is a terrible, but realistic way to stop kids giving themselves CTE for 6 dollars a month. Chris Cole just posted one of his recent slams where he smacked the back of his head super hard at the bottom of a bowl and it was terrifying and foreboding as hell. But blatantly asking for a cause of death off the bat (granted I had no idea Idk knew about the seizures so I apologize) is a bad look imo.
Just stop fucking fighting in this thread. If the family wants to share the cause they will.

A Southern Legend. Dude had such a good big guy style, real powerhouse kind of skating like he could punch through a wall. RIP

RIP to an all-time great. One of my favorite skaters, very nice person too. My thoughts are with his friends and family.

Sorry but this hit me hard because Since Day One was one of the first full lengths I saw and James had my favorite part. I am glad he is with Vader now.

My heart just sank so hard at this news.

RIP Mr. James Hardy. Your skateboarding was beautiful. That’s the best way I can describe it.

My sincerest condolences to all his closest friends and family. Dude seemed to be a great guy from all accounts. What a terrible loss.

Everybody is talking about the real video but I was a kid when that fallen part came out and I loved it. Bit morbid that those bad slams in the beginning that I thought were so badass may have contributed to his passing. Great skater, rest in peace my man. We really should be wearing helmets.

I hope his family and friends are coping okay.

I had no clue he was having seizures or that he had suffered so many head injuries or had spoken about it publicly. Always appreciated his Bunt episode and willingness to speak pout about the wack jock/ hazing culture in skate teams.

Rest In Peace James.

RIP, such a sick skater and seemed like a chill and down to earth guy. Saw him posting stuff about the Bunt Video. Condolences to his friends and family. He seemed pretty close with that Real crew of like Davis, Brock, Robbie, etc. who came up together.

Had the pleasure of meeting James once at a shitty park in AL. Nothing short of amazing. Big smile while doing really gnarly things. A true southern skate star. Gonna miss ya down here, rest easy bubba.

RIP and deepest condolences to all who knew him.

I hope that whatever happened, people will take what he spoke about and his struggles seriously. I hope that skating can find a way to help people not only in his situation but all sponsored skaters as we learn more and more about long-term issues. Shit like pro football and hockey are barely learning how to handle CTE and neurological issues and they have strong unions advocating for players so I know skating will be far behind. But something needs to be done

Absolutely heartbreaking, for all his talent on the board he seemed like an even better person off it. Can’t think of many pros to gracefully step away from skateboarding but still be a part of it. Sendin out a big Roll Tide for him and his family.

didn't know him personally but man he seemed like a great dude

be safe out there you guys

Lol. Eldee is definitely a human. He’s like a raider on horse back who’s kinda scared to do battle. Somehow he closes his eyes and swings his sword wildly and wakes up in a pile of dead orcs.

Rest in peace. Such a powerful, yet graceful skater. rewatching his True Blue montage with Burke and Merlino was part of my pre-sesh ritual consistently.
