Anyone else feeling a sort of externally-caused depression due to this mess we're in? I've noticed how much it's all weighing on me and that it's making it hard to enjoy normal every day things. ...
@Gnarfunkell I'm so sorry to hear about your job loss and difficulties. I, and any other reasonable American, struggle daily with what is happening and the feeling of powerlessness. Learning that our rights are not inalienable and checks-and-balances was not enforceable has been a tough transition, and even if things recover politically, the illusion of it all can never return. I, personally, have the most trouble with comprehending how other people can seem to be enjoying the cruelty and misfortune.
That being said, please please try to enjoy the little things in front of you. It is ok to take a break from the news and social media and just focus on some of the good things that can come with the human experience: foods you enjoy, skating, music, playing with your dog, your favorite movie... whatever it may be.
Sadly, having compassion and dignity is an act of rebellion for an American these days, so if you can express that just a little bit then you have done something to fight the horrible shift in values we are experiencing. We may not be able to end the hate, violence, emotional stupidity, bullying, and cruelty being inflicted upon us (and infecting so many), but we can make the world a little better for someone in a small way and that does make a difference.
