Ah yes. That’s the solution, support the democrats. Surely they have our best interests in mind while they do fuckall about literal nazis taking over. I voted blue down the fucking ballot and all I got in return was a full on fascist takeover With zero resistance. Crickets from that side of the isle, minus a handful of them who’ve been bold enough to push back against these christofascist lunatics. Maybe if we support them even harder they’ll run some moderate corpse of a candidate instead of glancing out of their mansions for 5 minutes to do a goddamn thing.
Sadly, we were out voted. Representative democracy sucks when our party doesn't get power and the other party doesn't care about the law. Dems don't control the executive branch or the legislative branch. They are filing lawsuits, but the judicial branch is fucking is us over.
And, yes, the party is too institutionalist for sure and it needs to stop defending and start fixing institutions. They need to start acting aggressively, especially in California when it comes to high-speed trains (fuck your individual, environmental, or business lawsuit against high speed rail, this shit is going in and its going in tomorrow... let someone bring it to the Supreme Court). They need to embrace being the bad guy for the sake of getting things done.
That being said, a few things have been done. California, Washington, and Oregon are setting up the West Coast Health Alliance to counter-act some of the harm done by Kennedy. California uses its size/power to set regulations that impact/help the rest of the country. And, they have a big chance to do something is in a few weeks when they need to vote to extend the debt ceiling again. This is their chance to withhold power from Trump and recast themselves as a party of action.
The way I see it we have four choices:
1: Use our support to embolden and change the Democratic party (this includes running our own campaigns, if someone as stupid as Mikey Taylor can win office with his connections to Turning Point Faith Rob McCoy) anyone can.
2: Wait for Trump's troops to start disappearing regular people that disagree with them
3: Start a new party and usurp power from the Democratic party.
4: just leave. Let the country backslide
I'm fine with 1 or 3. Bernie came in and made Burlington, VT in awesome place and to no-one's surprise it didn't kill off business. But, Bernie also used the Democratic party to push his message nationally. I don't care if it is Democrat or independent left, just participating is huge. Or, just pick choice 4 and bail.
Choice 2 is the absolute worst choice and that involves staying here and abandoning the Democrats and doing nothing to replace them. As far as I can remember, my party official affiliation has either been green or independent my entire life, but the Greens have been aimless post-Nader and I don't see anyone else in my local area who isn't pushing conservative nonsense.
And, on top of supporting, we need to put pressure on the dems who always shut down the left-wing of the party. The right let's its far-right go wild without a care in the world. The dems need to support their left as well or at least just let it do its thing. And, there needs to be a religious wing of the party. Tolstoy was a Christian anarchist and Jesus was pretty left in his turn the other cheek, give to poor, hating the loansharks (usury?), and so on.
