How come fs 180 switch crooks are called that no matter which side you approach the obstacle? I.E. Berles handrail ender vs his SJ tribute on the gap to ledge. Shouldn't one of those be a 180 switch nosegrind or something?

Slappies should die out as "cool". Hear me out....They are difficult for people who are used to ollies, so are any differently leveraged trick (pressure flips, primo stands, whatever).

I don't care if someone does any trick but stop marketing it as the cool thing to do when you hit 40, or worse, the cool thing to do while you're young and don't have a hip impingement stopping you from ollies.  Small ledge tricks are already low impact enough for anyone under 70. Don't sell yourself short.

If it's not good enough for a video game trick it's not good enough for any serious skateboarder. Become a filmer and do something productive if you're that fried.

If only people could decide which one is the Howard grind and which is the 180 sw crooked.

I liked the frame rate on the last NB vid

I like that opinion too. People hate on it for being a smooth and polished final product, and because GH hated on it. Not every video is gonna be VX footy from NY or a Polar vid and that’s fine.

Agree on that one. I get why people say it's clean, but I'm also old enough to remember how iconoclastic "Today was a good day" ad from NikeSB was, with no fisheye and clean production. I came back to the NB vid recently and yup, ripping is still ripping.

Other 2025 random opinions:
Gravette is slept on. Dude came back after a list of injuries that would make a professional stuntman blush, is genuinely funny, doesn't make shit skateboard related paintings, and produces one of the most fun videos for a fucking bushing company.

The worst thing about last few SOTY seasons was not the push or the pandering, but rather the consensus that this is somewhat objective thing, and it's due to the Thrasher's monopoly in printed media. It would be to everyone's benefit to have a counterpart, leaving Thrasher to be just one of the many voices in the matter.

The whole SOTY thing was less of a headache when there were other print mags. Every mag had their SOTY, or a version of it. Thrasher has always been clear about their SOTY criteria, it's just now they're the only mag left, so everyone is expecting the SOTY award to be this unbiased all-encompassing representation of the best skateboarder. It's never been that.

Thrasher picks their favorite, they always have, and that's cool. Let's chill on SOTY and remember it's just the opinion of one publication.

The framerate in most the NB video was anything but "smooth". They clearly shot it in a high framerate, but the final export was pretty low. Which was definitely a stylistic decision to get that cinematic framerate which is under 30, I think it's like 23-25 or something.

At least this is how I remember it, haven't watched it in a few weeks.

Feel free to burn me at the stake if I'm wrong.

Not wearing pads/helmet on big stuff is stupid.

Gonz's art ain't all that.

Anti-Hero is now Nike-Hero, and it's lame.

Tiny wheelbases are icky.

DLX makes too many products.

Social Media / Cell phones are the worst thing that's happened to the world.

"Full" sized wheels are horrific.

Fakie tricks are finally starting to see more shine and I fucking love it. Especially on handrails they've been largely neglected until recently so I'm hoping for more nbds of that variety in 2025.

My favourite stance in general and produces some of the most enjoyable to watch tricks and style. Fakie 5-0>Nollie nosegrind.

Fakie grind and fakie rotational flip or ollie tricks are named somewhat strangely and often mislabelled or discussed, so I'm hoping that with more of them being done / iterated on in mainstream pro skating will mean that the nomenclature becomes more defined or more widely understood.

On that note:

Foy's fakie flip (switch) fs feeble is easily understood when named this way (I've referenced it like this myself), but it's a Fakie flip (Fakie) Losi grind, right? And if he had of done the same trick but approaching the rail bs with fakie flip to a switch bs feeble it would really be fakie flip fakie bs losi grind...I think.

I wanna know more about the actual history of fakie naming generally too.

PS:
IF I APPROACH A RAIL IN FAKIE STANCE WITH MY ASS TO THE RAIL AND DO A FAKIE OLLIE AND LAND IN A SWITCH BS NOSEBLUNTSLIDE, IS THAT A FAKIE FRONT BLUNTSLIDE? OR A FAKIE BS BLUNTSLIDE?
[/i]

I remember when people used to hate on Sheckler for only skating regular and fakie. I think it caught a bad rap after that. Glad to see people coming around. Looking back, Sheckler is probably the gnarliest fakie skater I can think of.

Mason Silva skates a lot of fakie and not much switch or nollie. Chris Lambert was big on fakie in the early 2000s. I love it. It’s an underrated stance. I’ll take your word on Sheckler because I doubt I’m gonna rewatch his parts soon, if at all.

Not sure about that, but he sure has one of the best done cab flips in his Plan B part over the Besos wave/bump to bar. It's so controlled, perfectly caught and spun.

Edit to add: Fuck, also one of the best half cab flips @1:18 in the same part. Maybe you are right... That cab over the rail and the fakie hardflip Bricktown too. So much heavy fakie stuff in this.

Whole part is pretty great actually. Asides from Joslin's it's the True part I've rewatced the most.

cordano russell is fun to watch
but borderline unlistenable for me
lays it on waaay too heavy
may be stuck on toy for a while
due to image issues
while cool-guying is a real phenomenon, studies show that 83% of all cool-guying incidents can be attributed to the cool-guyee being an awkward weirdo

more and more people are abusing the concept of “pinch” to get away with sloppy crooks/180 grinds. to do these tricks proper you should be fully locked in, shoulders relatively square, balancing on the truck — NOT the nose/tail with a single wheel poking over the rail/ledge. ex: i would call the trick below a noseslide.

I hear what you’re saying but there’s no way you’re calling this a noseslide. If you did this and called it a noseslide, I imagine the homies would tell you to do it again because that is not a noseslide
