What podcast did you hear the talking points of the US state dept with which to argue skateboarders online? Time to log off when you’re earnestly typing the terms ‘muslim slave camps’. Get real buddy
[close]

Uyghur Muslim internment camps in Xinjiang, China. Pretty common knowledge.
Kidnappings. Mass detentions. Family separation. Political indoctrination. Forced labor. Torture. Sexual abuse. Genocide.
A well-documented humanitarian crisis. Time to educate yourself "buddy".

I’ve never been to China so have no way of knowing for sure other than what I’ve read on the internet. But don’t they have extremely limited internet access and news coverage? For example I’ve read that Tiananmen Square is not allowed to be searched, even the dates of its occurrence. And not sure if it’s a just meme/joke but Winnie the Pooh was also somewhat banned since Xi Jinping resembled the cartoon character. For what it’s worth there’s Wiki pages backing these claims. Skate spots, tech, architecture aside it doesn’t sound like the best place to live freely.

The oppressive culture and status quo is no secret. I know many people who have lived there.
People like milk.razor will reply snarky without any knowledge or frame of reference.
Forgive me for feeling triggered by the original post but I will repeat "muslim slave camps" as many times as need be.

Dude. You act like I'm waving the American flag and continually ignore my expressed displeasure with the US.
I'm simply responding to you promisingly referring to China as "the future" and dudes like milk.razor who are ignorant.
I thought we were talking about the quality of life in China for their citizens, Muslims and all, and whether we should move there.

Your poetic attempt at comparing a war zone to a concentration camp is cute but flawed. The IDF and Hamas are both terrorist organizations and I'm quite dissatisfied with the positions of both Biden and Trump perpetuating the military industrial complex.
We can go down that rabbit hole if you want but I'm assuming that you also know little about the complexities of the millennia old Holy Land conflict. I'm only guessing you have selective memory and a recency bias for that too.

I could deflect and bring up China's support of Russia's invasion of the Ukraine but that would be a straw man argument like your reference to Gaza. Two wrongs don't make a right. Have fun in Rio.

As a longtime Thunder and Indy person, I always thought Ventures in shops and catalogues looked the coolest with that pronounced “T” shape/hanger/outline on the front of the truck as opposed to the barrel hanger of Indys (second place) and plain-Jane look of Thunders (last place/least appealing).

Anywho I’m skating Ventures for the first time and I am finding the “T” shape kind of ugly when I look down at my board. Maybe it'll grow on me with a bit more time

I kinda like Doobie and don’t really understand all the hate he gets on here. Is it the headwear?
Dude, Doobie is a whole situation haha.

He has an insanely pervy aura, everything he says / does is sexualized and weird. I think a lot of it comes from alcoholic antics, but I'm not sure that excuses it. If you read the newest Thrasher with Tree-Funk on the cover, in the Monster tour section, the interview with Ruby Lilley was very illuminating; it was clear she was very uncomfortable with his presence, based on her answers to the questions. Something about mentally having to prepare to get in the van with him - imagine that! Basically locked inside a cramped space for a couple weeks with a huge perv! There's the whole whipping your dick out frequently situation too. One of his best tricks haha. I don't think I'd wanna hang with a guy like that, even if he was passing me the blunt all the time...

And just so I don't come across as biased, allow me to mention that I think his choice of headwear is dope, and he is really fkn good at skating. Just creepy. His footage is cool but he scares me.

i've skated with him a few days ago and i could tell that he was trying to be nice and friendly. it was on some monster tour for a video premiere and he was there with a few other european monster riders. he skated the most out of all of them (not that they had to, it wasn't a demo, i just happened to skate the same spot), talked to the locals, got hyped when other people landed their stuff and generally had a good vibe. i've heard all of the stories about him but it seemed like his sponsors talked to him about it or something, the day after was the day of the premiere and he was there chilling and i didn't see him doing anything dumb or weird. i didn't go to the afterparty though.

Hmm yeah I'll admit I do probably have a pretty warped perception of the man, because I've only seen him through the lens of media intended to create a character. It makes sense that sponsors would try to tame the beast, maybe it would've been cool, funny or marketable 20 years ago but we live in a different kind of culture now.

The interview with Ruby also highlighted how much hype he brought to the session and that made me smile so I guess it ain't all bad. Still personally wouldn't wanna be at a sesh with him there because he scares me regardless haha.

I like Lurpiv’s old time industrial look but I’m not sure if I’ll ever try them. I enjoy my current Ace’s enough.

Edit: And to be honest I really can’t wrap my head around the name ”Lurpiv”.

I know someone who went on tour with him a couple of years ago. From what they told me, he pretty much acted like he was in Jackass all the time. Loud and obnoxious from the moment he woke up hungover to when he passed out drunk. Didn't take no for an answer. Didn't respect other peoples' personal space, let alone belongings. Couldn't be relied on. The only thing he didn't find funny was when he was the butt of the joke.

I respect the person who told me this, so I've always taken their word for it and never warmed up to Doobie. But it's also a kind of behavior that you can very much grow out of. I'd even say most people who are little shits like this chill out sooner or later. Maybe it just took him a hell of a lot longer than most. Since he just got on Monster officially, this would be a great time to become more professional. Which it sounds like he's making an effort to do based on what @roba described.

Not trying to throw the guy under the bus, but if he goes for Monsters instead of some other substances he may or may not have indulged in in the past, that would be a huge step toward mellowing out.

I'm sure being sent crates of monster energy drink is gonna do wonders for this behavior

Not trying to throw the guy under the bus, but if he goes for Monsters instead of some other substances he may or may not have indulged in in the past, that would be a huge step toward mellowing out.

What podcast did you hear the talking points of the US state dept with which to argue skateboarders online? Time to log off when you’re earnestly typing the terms ‘muslim slave camps’. Get real buddy

I’ve been to China and out of the 17 countries I’ve been to it’s the last one I would consider moving to, by a mile. Turkey sounds better. Mexico is a million times better. I don’t give a fuck what the state department says, that country sucks ass- it’s dirty, stinky and generally no fun. The idea that poverty isn’t worse there is absurd. The air is so disgusting that on days when the wind was blowing to the east we would get smog three hundred miles away in Japan.

Yes America is a fascist nation now, but literally no average Chinese person alive has experienced even the level of freedom we have in the USA right now. But go ahead move there for the ledges. I’ll be here in SD enjoying at least legal weed.

A quick reminder that China has some of the most strict and severe marijuana laws in the world should certainly sway Slap's popular opinion.

Corey Glick going to Sci-Fi wasn’t the power move we all expected it to be

If the rumours are to be believed, his next part will change that
