Millennials that picked up skating during the pandemic who identify as 80’s pool skaters really annoy me. They’re all usually pretty friendly if not a bit sheepish, but I can’t help but feel judgmental when I see some 38YO cosplayer trying to do a boneless on a 10” shaped board yet can’t ollie up a curb properly and have zero awareness or skatepark etiquette.
We have a lot of actual 50-something guys doing the '80s pool skater cosplay here.
Most actually were skating in the '80s, but I know for a 100% fact there wasn't a single skateable pool or bowl within 250 miles of this city until skateparks started popping up in the mid-2000s, so it still kinda counts as cosplaying in my book, cosplaying a past they didn't actually live.
They can be good to have around though, they're like the skatepark commissary.
If you ever need wax, a skate tool, a bearing, hardware, a lightly used deck, a bandaid, an ace bandage, ibuprofen, water, string cheese, a beer, an encouraging word, a hug, or a ride home, those '80s cosplay guys will have you covered.
