Yeah that’s exactly correct, skateboarder,TWS and Big Brother were owned corporately, so they never pivoted…. The skateboard magazine wasn’t bankrolled the same way…..Thrasher the print mag I bet operates at a loss but they’re making up money somewhere else….

While we’re on the topic….the mag is better than it’s ever been….

I guess my unpopular opinion on Slap is that Thrasher is pretty great.  It's really easy to just not read the corny stuff and it really isn't that "hellride" anymore either.  Every issue has fucked up next level skating in it, what else do you want.

VillagePM is actually pretty sick and so is Thanyan Costa. Just because their aesthetics are a little too advanced and arty Euro for the average oldhead slappy authority doesn't make them bad. I think it's pretty great that they're really going for something fresh and I'd love to see them succeed, even though I could never wear them.

imo they aren't advanced or arty, the shoes look like your standard rock climbing/trail running type shoes.  theyre just marketing it towards skaters now which i'm not saying is a bad thing, after all we're all bored of the same skate shoe silhouettes

Didn’t know which part to quote, but they also embraced/pivoted to online video where Transworld didn’t. Taylor Kirby talks about it in his Bunt inteview that Transworld didn’t want to host any Shep Dawg related thing even though they were all in the same city/region; whereas Thrasher was down.

I wish this were talked about more because it’s so crazy that Thrasher won out over everything. Perhaps it helped that they have no corporate overlords either. I’d take a “what really happened to Transworld” article/videopiece..

I do think that the logo helped to a certain extent. It's a way cooler logo than Transworld had.

Not trying to die on that hill but I can't think of any standard rock climbing / trail running type shoe that looks like that. Sure they're heavily inspired by actual climbing shoes but in the streets I haven't seen anything similar, much less in the skate microcosm

They're copying rock climbing shoes there isn't anything artsy about it. They'll do soon after the Gorp/niche outdoor gear fad dies, which won't be too long. Most of that expensive gear sucks compared to legit technical career. I help with a technical jacket review every year and we bought some of the currently hyped brands and it was pathetic. I've got some climber friends here in Co and can barely tell the differences between Village and their adult ballet slippers.

I don’t think many people said they like his push they just like how fast he goes…..I’ve seen him skate and he doesn’t skate big wheels, he just pumps and powers through everything.  Just skating flat, when he lands he pushes his body forward somehow not losing speed… I might be a little off base on this but people have mentioned how much they like Gino’s push…which I think is similar….but that horse is pretty dead at this point….

With all gratitude and respect that Antwuan is sober, healthy, and skating these days... his constant instagram stories of corny affirmations, pictures of his gym, cliched hustle-culture platitudes, and footage of his church pastor is becoming insufferable. And, to be honest, each skatepark clip of yet another noseslide heelflip bring diminishing returns.

Again, all preferable to Antwuan going down, and he should do whatever makes him happy and fulfilled. But dude's content is boring as hell these days. One could even say "Neen-esque".

If you cant ollie above an object and slam the front truck like you would a tailslide your nose slide is trash. Stab and wiggle nose slides suck.

Basically if you dont do em like Keenan or Drake Jones don't film that shit lol.

Carroll too @7:30 look at how smooth he pushed from sw to regs in one push after the sw pop shuv. No one does that now. Sw mongo was a necessity for all those guys from that era who were first doing sw flat ground tricks along with the pop shuvit. Its just so convenient to rotate your board 180 without your body and move your trailing foot up to switch stance.

All the clowns who diss sw mongo or dont get it dont skate switch or much flat ground. It works and after you switch stance you can still push switch if you want. I get it tho rarely do you see people doing 5,6,7+ flat ground trick lines with a ledge or two in there. I wish people would skate like that again or film that stuff because trick trick trick trick in video parts is fucking boring... let's see you push let's see if you can actually skate and not just be able to do tricks.
