-   Charlie Birch should’ve stayed on Yardsale: look, the shit he does with Palace is fucking sick, and he is a highlight of the vids to me, but Palace is becoming stale. I fw Palace, but half of the videos just feel boring now. I was watching Birch’s Palace footy and just thinking to myself how sick he’d look with Yardsale doing some old VHS camera stuff, only to switch it up with HD cameras. My point is that Yardsale isn’t for everybody, but they are at least taking a more interesting approach to editing than “We are British rave techno ciggies and accents”.

-   90% of skate vids have the most obnoxious fucking titles and are just 2 random words put together. That’s fine, but it’s getting to a point where I could literally just type in two random words, and there will be a thumbnail of a skater’s face and a filmer’s username. Bring back gay ass corporate names like “Flip Skateboards Sorry” – so that I know what the fuck I am actually watching/what brand this is, rather than “NUT SHOT” – which is probably a great name, but who the fuck in the video/what company it be?

I think a lot of people's skating would look better if they skated a deck more proportionate to their size... I learned how to skateboard on 7.75s and because those are smaller you had to really learn footwork and balance... a lot of younger and older skaters on these gigantic decks have a really sloppy unrefined style because there's more room for their feet to land on as opposed to a smaller more proportioned deck that forces you to land properly...

I was bullied in to skating a bigger deck as a teen since I have big feet. I reluctantly skated 8.25 for like 6 years. I recently finally sized back down to 8.0 because I don’t care what people say anymore, and flip tricks flip so much better and higher. I feel like I wasted years of time being self conscious of what people thought.

I had the exact opposite experience. Always had to get 7.75s and below with average (10-10.5) feet. When bigger boards finally became the norm, I immediately started landing new tricks left and right. 8.5s just flip the right speed with the right heft for me. Not to mention all grind tricks feel a million times better.

As the old man at the skate shop, I have literally struggled not to strangle one of our former employees.  He was convinced that shoe size and board size was the only thing that mattered.  He argued with someone that their deck choice was stupid and would not work.  I am a firm believer that you should stand on a few decks to see what feels best to you.  At 48, I have skated around on a little bit of everything from the tiny plastic things, wide Pig shapes, 80's shaped decks with and without a nose kick, football/egg shapes, modern popsicles from 7.75 - 9 wide.  I have proven time and time again, that it is possible to skate anything, but personally I adjust to what feels best depending on my health.  Currently, I'm riding wider boards due to injury to limit me from attempting to do stupid stuff.  When my legs are back to 100%, I will probably go back to something 8 - 8.25.

lmao, great take. I had the same thought thinking "You could tell me these are AI generated and I would believe you" when seeing my youtube front page consist 90% of teenager homie videos that feature the face of some kid and a random word title (either all caps or all lowercase).

Sometimes I can see a video thumbnail and username I've never seen before, and correctly guess the vibes or style of the video itself without even clicking it, which is pretty cool tho.

I don't actually have a big problem with it. It's just annoying to have to tell friends "look up xxxxx + skate on youtube, it'll be the 2nd video" instead of "look up the new krooked video". I find indy / homie videos very very entertaining so it's usually all I recommend people.

Don’t want to say too much but experiencing him in person is even more insufferable. Even if you try to avoid him at a park he will go out of his way to draw attention to himself/get in your way, etc. Seen him be rude as hell to young kids too, not cool.

Took a few days, but I got through this  entire thread. Entertaining, thought provoking, and enjoyable.

I agree about the Tom “One Frontside Flip Too Many” Penny dislike. Mostly his dumb hat and oversized clothing. Yes, he is talented, but his overall image makes him unwatchable. Didn’t know who Wade Desarmo was, looked him up, I guess I’ve seen him before but his clothing and straight arm steeze landings are disgusting.

Vflips and manuals are a waste of tricks.

Max Palmer is a genius, every clip of his gets me pumped to skate.

I enjoy the Gonz’s art because it reminds me of Basquiat.

Shaped boards are dumb. They look kooky clunky, and are impractical for most tricks I want to do.

Camouflage, puffy shoes, and too large pants (especially when they have to hold up their dress while pushing) are atrocious.

Denis Busenitz’s rabid pushing is energizing and inspirational. Faster is almost always better.

Nike, Adidas, Converse, and Asics are and look stupid.

Skateboarding is not a sport (for me a form of expression and performance art).
