Nintendo Switch 2
« on: January 16, 2025, 09:22:56 AM »
Was just revealed this afternoon incase anyone missed it.
Looks nice but still waiting for a lot of details - price being the main one, sounds like more details to be released in April.

Anyone thinking of getting one? I've held off not buying a switch then the steam deck was released and further complicated matters, as well as those other PC handhelds. I love handhelds / the idea of hybrid consoles but as someone who plays primarily on Playstation and very secondarily on Steam I'm feeling more of a pull towards a Steam Deck. It would certainly be cheaper to play and further build up a library of games vs Nintendo's store.

I'm kind of wary about it until I see more specs and the price. I miss the days of Nintendo being brave with their designs, tbh. The transition from N64 to GameCube felt like a million mile leap when it debuted, but this just feels kind of lazy for their reputation.

Yeah I'm the same re: specs and price. With the switch 1 being in the top 3 best selling consoles of all time I guess it makes sense to just iterate on that idea rather than going for some big swing and a miss.

I've seen people suggest the specs are already out there / leaked but my nerdery is letting me down because I know I haven't seen them.

Some of the pics / footage seem to show the Joycon being used like a mouse too, could be something similar to that "FPS mode" control the Legion Go did with it's detachable controllers.

I’ll probably end up getting one. The first Switch has probably been the most fun run I’ve had with a console since I was a kid.

I’m seeing rumors that the price is 400 dollars, and the launch titles include a new 3D Mario, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Mario Kart 9. (Which based on the teaser, that last one seems to be true).

Of course this gets announced less than a month after I buy the original switch. If I knew this was coming I would’ve just waited for the switch 2

You can probably return it or even sell it on at not much of a loss. Nintendo stuff tends to hold its value for the most part.

Idk if this is short sighted but hopefully the fact that this is a sequel to the switch (switch 2) means decent backwards compatibility

Yeah hopefully the backwards compat is robust. They said all / most digital compatibility and most physical iirc. Probably the limited ones are the likes of labo games or others that need peripherals.

I’ll buy it because I’m a whore but I am curious about how is this any different than switch 1.

The day 1 launch titles could make or break how soon I acquire this.
The thought of playing RDR2 in handheld sounds terrible.
That game is mandatory to play on a TV or desktop

I haven’t played a handheld since game gear.  What level of gaming does the switch have?   Does it surpass Nintendo 64 (3d worlds, etc) or PlayStation 2?

I'll buy regardless, bc also a whore, and so far I'm hearing is the performance (in dock mode) is about 2.5 the performance of the steam deck so if it's even around the 1.25/1.5 mark of being better in handheld mode I'll be happy. I have a switch 1, switch lite and a steam deck and honestly I play them all for different games. Switch 2 will just be a happy addition.

A new 3D Mario game in lieu of odyssey would be enough for me to pick up switch 2.

Side note:I know I’m alone in this but I’ve tried RDR2 multiple times and it just never clicks for me

I had to play it like I was watching a TV series; slow at first, but eventually I was dying to see how it ended and staying up way too late every night for like a week.

How far did you get? It takes till like chapter 3 or 4 before you can take a breather from the main narrative. Go hunting, fishing, robbing, etc

Totally understand not being able to get into it tho. The controls can be straight up goofy sometimes
Wow sorry, didn't realise I was dealing with a sick cunt here

That would be great if true but sounds kinda out there given the Steam deck is no slouch either.
I haven't seen any leaks of power / tech specs though so it may well be.

It's going to be really interesting to see what will happen with handhelds over the next few yeasr with this and the various pc /+ steam os ones.

Its touted to be fully backwards compatible. Waiting until they announce a new smash game...

For the dude who just got the first switch, you should trade it in toward the 2 - however I would wait the first quarter or two as I'm sure they will push out updates/address any hardware issues upon launch.

Switch has been the most reliable console I've had aside from my PC.

For comparison, I have run through three xbox console between my Day One Xbox One finally kicking the bucket after multiple power cable switches, and another Xbox One X when I had a power surge and it was directly plugged into the wall.

My OG switch from 2018-2019 has not had one issue yet.

Idk man it's been widely discussed as being coming for about two years now not to mention the original Switch is about to be 8 years old now, shouldn't be that surprising

I will get one for sure but probably not at launch. Have so many switch 1 games I need to beat still... Stoked I will be able to play my old games though. My kids have dropped my switch so many times that the joycons are dangling by a strain of bone marrow if that even makes any sense

The DS iterated all the way up to the 3DS with however many versions from 2004 to 2020 so it's fine they're just iterating on the switch, but I was hoping for something new.  Being able to transfer over my library is sick, I just hope they allow for wireless dual screen play so you can play DS / Wii U games properly on it.

Really hoping the rumors of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess remakes are true. While maybe not enough to convince me to run out and buy it day one, it would be a very big incentive for me. TP is in my top 3 Zelda games of all time.

Nintendo announced they're adding the GameCube to NSO...exclusively for Switch 2. Just when I thought it was safe to be excited, Nintendo finds a way to shit on us.

New Mario Kart looks sick, but otherwise kind of a weak launch. Hoping they're saving the heavy hitters for holiday season.

I'll just wait for the Switch 2 emulator, $80 or a game is too rich for my blood.

Yeah that looks good too. I was sorta referring to day one of the console, but I guess a month after is close enough.

dying to know what playing street fighter 6 is gonna be like on the switch 2 lol i cant imagine it would be good. i saw they announced a few amiibo, jamie, kimberly and luke. wonder what they would do game wise, like refill drive gauge or some wacky shit.
