After that reveal and the pricing around games I'm pretty solidly in the "nope" camp.
I cannot justify getting another closed platform, especially when it has even higher-priced games that invariably do not come down in price.

I'm going to stick with PS5 as my main platform and look to get a handheld PC [Legion Go / Steam Deck] when the next round of those start releasing.

The whole idea is that it's a handheld that you can plug into a dock to play like a home console.
Some will say it's the other way around; a home console that you can take with you. I'm not sure I can agree with that in good faith given that it is a handheld, and that comes with certain concessions in game style / design.

Personally I am much more interested in the utility of handheld PC / Steam OS handhelds, there are more of those coming pretty soon. There are one or two that resemble the switch with the attachable controllers - like the Legion Go, if that's something you're drawn towards too.

It does, but the flatness doesn't lead to the best ergonomics, I'd go with some detachable grips especially if you have larger hands. Screen size is another factor, OK for casual games but I'd prefer a full monitor or TV if I was playing more immersive games like BOTW. The existing Switch library is packed with lots of solid titles, still amazed they managed to get TOTK running on such old hardware. Buying 2nd hand games is a viable option too if you want to save a few bucks.

If you want the simplest pick-up-and-play experience then you can't beat the Switch. And the abundance of 3rd party accessories like controllers, docks, grips and cases ensures there's something for every gamer.

If you don't mind tinkering with emulators and putting up with Windows, then a Windows-based handheld or Steamdeck will get you much more for the money. Nearly unlimited game library thanks to Steam, sailing the high seas or emulators, you can even configure them to boot into console-like experience. But you will need to put some time to get started and battery life for Windows handhelds doesn't have the best track record, too much power with batteries too small (relatively).

I was in your shoes a couple years ago, bought one on an impulse and it was a great idea. I mostly play as a console but it's nice to have the option to play handheld. Mario Odyssey is an awesome game, the new Zeldas are amazing, I've had lots of fun with it as a very casual player.

Guessing you already know, but on switch online there's a collection of n64 games you've gotta pay extra for (like $50/year or so). Doesn't have every game you probably remember from back when, but good nonetheless.

I've been fucking around with mario golf 64. About as frustrating as real golf but satisfying when shit goes right. Kinda like skating.

I love the original Switch. If you love classic Nintendo system titles its a must have, and if you are into JRPGS it is basically the system. I'm currently playing Chrono Cross on mine.

I'm going to hold off for a limited edition one if they release one with the Metroid game. Since the Metroid and Donkey Kong games don't release on launch, it doesn't make sense for me to get one before that, unless Switch 2 prices will double due to tariffs.

I'll buy regardless, bc also a whore, and so far I'm hearing is the performance (in dock mode) is about 2.5 the performance of the steam deck so if it's even around the 1.25/1.5 mark of being better in handheld mode I'll be happy. I have a switch 1, switch lite and a steam deck and honestly I play them all for different games. Switch 2 will just be a happy addition.

I loved Snake Eater did at least 3 playthroughs on the PS2, MGS is historic for bringing cinematic storytelling to gaming but Snake Eater was more fun with less backtracking and allowing different approaches to bosses while cranking up the wackiness. I'll get that in my catalog to complete before the remaster comes out this year.

I mean to be fair RE2 needed a full gameplay overhaul to be brought into a modern package. OG RE2 was prerendered backgrounds, tank controls, static camera angles, etc. MGS3 is a modern game in terms of controls and presentation and stuff. Now personally, I'd love to see it in the MGSV engine with those terms of controls, but really it only needs new graphics and some basic control refinements.

My buddy ended up with two and asked if I wanted one. I was intending to wait a bit but I impulsively jumped on it… I’m kind of on the fence, maybe I’ve got a little buyers remorse. My family is enjoying the new Mario Kart, it’s fine…don’t think I’ve ever felt so ripped off by a game though. I guess that sums everything up. I feel kind of ripped off. The graphical improvements on a lot of my classic switch games is a nice little treat, but I was more than happy with my original switch. The upgraded Zelda BOTW and TOTK look absolutely incredible though. I know I will eventually pick up all the new staples that roll out and I won’t be stressing at all…and I do intend on snagging Cyberpunk 2077 here pretty soon.

The main frustration is something I was completely oblivious to until it was too late. The switch 2 has 256 gigs of internal storage. Decent for switch standards, i thought. I fit most of my original library on the console. I tried using one of my micro sd cards and it didn’t work. I started looking into it and turns out the switch 2 is only compatible with micro sd EXPRESS CARDS. Guess it’s a relatively new tech. They are expensive, and they are literally nowhere. Sold out everywhere. So until more become available I can’t buy new games without shuffling my library around. And a lot of the new switch games are pretty large, 60-80 gigs. So on top of this fiasco I’ve already spent $500 on a console and $80 on a game i don’t care about, and to buy more games I’m probably gonna fork over atleast another hundred bucks conservatively for more storage. 

Anyways, if you’re on the fence I would honestly wait a year or so and let this chaos get sorted. I’m just waiting for some recall to come out lol.

Each Nintendo release has been less and less "whelming" for me. Switch was a much needed evolution in terms of console ergonomics, but the gaming quality has been lackluster outside of the core classic variants. My Switch 2 has been even less wow'ing. I don't regret it, but I can't recommend it either especially if you have spent decades playing core classic variants.

I demoed one at Best Buy, and then got the Game Stop credit card. After thinking it over, I decided to hold off until the Metroid game comes out. I’ve been waiting on that shit since 2018, so I might as well wait a bit longer for a Metroid-themed console that comes with the game.

Donkey Kong Bananza and Pokemon Legends ZA look decent too, but I’m not going to compete with resellers for the opportunity to buy one.

I just remembered I have my Wii still plugged in to but tucked behind a little HD TV on my desk. I'm going to try and make an effort to use that, now that I've decided not to get a Switch 2.

Love that it can play Gamecube games natively on it - Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes being the only GC game I bought for it.

I always meant to get around to playing Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Wii, and Super Mario Galaxy - but that's still sealed. SH is pretty cool but anytime I try I just find myself wanting a normal controller.

I've never played a Metroid or Zelda game in my life, I feel like that's a big omission I could patch over with some Wii/Gamecube games. I'm open to suggestions for both series.

Just had a look at some online and yeah you weren't joking. Even Twin Snakes has gone up so much since I bought it at an already kinda inflated price- I paid about £65 for it on eBay 4 or 5 years ago. GameCube games in general more expensive than Wii ones in general.

Some Wii games I was able to get fairly cheap though - Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles, Galaxy wasn't more than like £20, House of the Dead Overkill and Red Steel were both cheap enough. But these were all bought maybe 7 or 8 years ago now.
