yeah that can be soo annoying how if you get to close the ground an object it's screws everything up.  And sometimes you'll set all your markers and give it one final watch and it's not even close to what it was.

yeah i hate that shit, and it's always at the end of like a 4 trick line you're trying to film/edit all spiffy, I've wasted so much time just to have to dumb down how stuff looks

yeah but it only gives you basic tripod and follow shots with the stock editor

I would really look into getting the filmer pack if I were you, once you get the hang of it you can produce some pretty amazing shit, other than it drifting off like mentioned before its totally worth it man.

well, assuming your using the filmer pack, if you set one keyframe at say, 24mm zoom and then one after at 75mm zoom, as you go on in the timeline, the camera just keeps zooming and you can get it up to a 500mm zoom.  Or go the other way and get it down to a 10mm which looks a lot like a fisheye (most complain it looks wierd though and like to keep it around 15mm).   Anyways, the big zoom is where it's at.

Here's a video that kind of explains it better in terms of how to get the fisheye look, but it works for both ways:
