the emperors clothes
« on: December 25, 2007, 03:54:06 PM »
nobody wants to say it but the truth is combos are wack. Everyone knows that balancing a fakie pivot and poppin out will always be harder then a ten trick lip to grind.  Combos are just a cheap play off what you can already do. Before fully flaired  EVERYONE seemed to shun combos as shitty relic of the past, but it seems some of the most influencial skaters of our time are trying to bring them back.  I cant hate on these guys they are the most stylish and capabable skaters who ever graced a board, but none the less combos are gay if they combine two different species of tricks. For example kickflip backtail kickflip out= same species of trick= not gay.
smith to tailslide=gay

What exactly is wrong with mixing two or more tricks together? I'm not following.

Whatever Half  the dudes in that video are the guys that started combo tricks, i don't really know why people expect anything different.
If you don't like them watch the Habitat or Static 3 videos, fuck about 7 new videos came out in the last 6 weeks you have plenty of other options.
I have alwyas like combo tricks as long as they are not overdone and stylish.

i think you are a bit goofy, pal
if you want to be technical about it most the tricks seen today are combos:
kickflip+backside180=backside flip and the list goes on and on plus over crook to 5-0's are sick
i don't exactly know what it means to "kook" someone ( I never heard "kook" as a verb before) but i know its nothing positive and i also know i can't do it, but what i'm getting at is:
you sir, are a kook, and deserve to be kooked by someone other than me
merry christmas deusch bag

If the person doing the trick makes it look good, than I'm not really concerned.

if you want to get even more technical, anything other trick that involves vertical leap, other than an ollie, is a combo. when you kickflip you're really doing an ollie then a kickflip. unless, of course you don't pop at all

actually the ollie is a combo trick as well.  A tail scrape and a hippie jump

maybe our regional dialect is different, but around these parts "hippie jumps" refer to submarining your board under something as you jump over it. you must mean jumping and magically making your board stick to your feet. by the way, how do all of you skateboarders do that?

I can dig it. Ledge skating was getting a bit stale (minus a few dudes) and since doing tricks with style isn't a problem for these dudes, they just mixed the eras and put it all together. It seemed like hard versions of all the early nineties tricks done with style and speed.

there is a little truth to this, but it does all come down to this:

I think alot of the older dudes that feel nostalgic towards the whole fully flared being the next gold fish/h-street video were blinded.  The earliest warning sign started when Jeremy Rogers started doing his 'nose slide to tail slide' combo.  That shit is faggy and regular.  What are we supposed to do next, go back to size 50 pants?  The main reason why I HATE Fullyflared is (the name, gay) and the amount of combo's and slow-mo's.  Don't get me wrong, the skating is ok at points, but mostly, it's a super snore to watch.  Other people have voiced a similar opinion, so don't bother responding to that part.

I don't like all types of skating, just good skating, and not some faggy ass combo for the skake of being able to do it.  I don't care what mike-mo nerdy ass skateboarder can do a 720 triple flipping donkey kick.  Shit looks bad.  Best left for the 'joke' footage.  Not in a real part.
