Just picked these up today for $50. Score. Only thing I don't like so far is how close the laces are to the flick point. Had the same issue with my Emerica Tempsters, I'll get used to it. They break in fast which is nice. Gonna get a paint pen and make the toecaps white too.

Honestly I wouldn't skate and just let the thing heal. It will be worth it in the end. Do these exercises once or twice per day and ice for 10-20 minutes afterwards. This is from my Physical Therapist and I can definitely feel my ankle getting stronger. It's a slow process but injuries are just part of the game and you have to deal with them.

what happened to your ankle? did you have surgery? i'm starting to have peroneal tendonitis or some shit...
My perineal nerve on my lead leg (left leg) is fucked, too many years of skating and under eating.

Skated these 868 samples for about a month now, surpsied they haven't ripped from the amount of kickflips I do. Didn't rip the laces too.

They skated great and durable, still a lot of life left. But probably going to be done skating them, tired of skating and looking at the same shoe for a while.

yeah, I'm at 11 weeks (almost 3 months) and still getting pain across the top of the ankle (and inside in the inner ankle joint) when I pull the foot up towards the sky.   been RICE'ing the fuck out of it along with just about every physio exercise known to man.

I was wearing Blazers when it happened.... so I don't even know what to believe about mids/hi's anymore

[close]

Being as close to the ground as possible is how I've reduced eliminated ankle injuries. I used to sprain my ankle all the time when I wore shoes that had midsoles, chunky vulc and cup outsoles, and thick insoles. I messed up my right ankle so bad I needed surgery. Mids or highs won't do anything if your foot can't feel anything because it's too far off the ground.

After reading a lot about feet and the human body (muscle atrophy/alignment of the body/etc) I switched back to thin minimal vulcs and replaced the insoles with the thinnest insole I could find (currently using insoles from Mike Mo DCs). I tried all the aftermarket insoles for a while and they did nothing. I'll only use thin, squishy insoles (like the Emerica ones) and old Blazer insoles. Since I made this change 3 years ago I've rolled my ankle once. It was more like a tweak and only took me out for a few weeks, and it was my bad ankle.

I did get a few bad cases of heel bruise in the first year when I made the switch, but they're fine now. My feet and ankles feel stronger than they have in years. My feet will only feel sore the next day if I have jumped down something, but that's it. I've heard a few pros (Lucas, that Colden kid) don't wear insoles at all. I'd be scared to go back to a thicker shoe (thick insole, midsole, outsole, etc), it just feels way too unstable now.

ive come to that conclusion as well... now if only the Rowley spv was still around.  loved that shoe.

Thinking of trying a pair (even though I still have his OG model on heavy rotation). Did you like the insole in them? Want to rock the spitfire collab ones but I can't deal with red insoles :o
[close]
Have you seen the crap graphics from Remind and Footprint? I'll take plain jane red any day if it's as good as FP's cushioning.
Yes I have and I'm not going anywhere near them. Will probably chuck a scholls in there or something, anything so that I don't have to deal with RED :o

Got some classic Vans Era's in black/white today for $43. Decided I'm not wearing socks with them, so I went to Walmart and got some Dr. Scholl's "Odor X" insoles and they have a baking soda/charcoal layer in the middle to absorb odors with a decent amount of cushion, too. Skated for a couple hours in 'em and it was nice. I can see why Stranger never wears socks.

Start lacing from the second set of eyelets and up. The first set is going to blow out in less than ten kickflips...why bother tying a knot to hold the laces together?

Finally got them in and on my feet.  Will try to get a session in them this week sometime and give more feedback on how they perform for those interested.

Initial thoughts

I went my normal size 8.5.  I'm happy with that.  I do have the slightest movement in my heel but I also have shitty socks on and they aren't laced tight so that may be the reason.  No pinching or weird rubbing anywhere.  Shape is perfect, width and length.  Soles/insole feel firm and supportive but not super cushioned ( coming from the adiprene insole in the superstar so I doubt anything would feel that cushioned ) so I'm expecting decent board feel but not much forgiveness if you bail jumping down big shit.  Although subjective and maybe not for everyone, I love the aesthetic of this shoe.  Will def be buying another pair or two for chilling at least and if they skate well may become my new shoe ( unless skating gaps/stairs then I'd use the superstars )

Anyone know how Sperry Top-Sider soles are for skating? I know non-skate vulc shoes tend to not be quite right (harder grade of grip).

Just started skating these Vans Kyle Walkers on Thursday last week, I swapped out the hd insole for a fp custom orthotic.
The fit is true for me, they did stretch a bit and softened up quick, they are quite stiffer than any other waffle cup shoes like the gilbert, stage 4 etc.
The grip is as good if not better than the classic or pro soles, and way more durable.
They show no sign of wear yet (the sole).
Suede seems extra tough, see how they look in a week, but at this point I might just be content skating this model for a while.

Haven't been hyped on Vans in a while. The K-Walks looks good, looks like a techier "Rowley's". Which is a good thing.

Waiting for my pair to come in.

Those look pretty good!  They look like they could potentially be pretty hot though would be my only concern.  I really like Kyle Walker's skating and would like to put some $ on him but haven't liked my last few pair of vans so I may just grab a couple of his decks instead.

Side note do you know who presses Amigos boards?  I saw they were from Seattle and thought of showing them a little love too.

I'm skating the suede Rieder slip ons and the Sutter. Again, the new grip on the Rieders is grand. I'm also looking to purchase another pair of his first shoe in the oiled suede.

Deciced to skate these NB# 598's! Toe cap looks good on the eye.

These are the second pair I skated, both samples. Both were durable. Liking those black/gum combo better.

Had these particular game changers for about 6 months. I still think they are good. They haven't compacted or feel soft, the ones I had before lasted me almost a year. Before I think they started to feel mushy and stinky.

Once in a while, I take them off the shoes. Let them dry overnight in the backyard or somewhere outdoors. Occasional lysol spray works too.

I've skated a pair of gamechangers for almost a year now. They definitely flatten out after that long and don't absorb impact like they first did, but the arch still feels nice, and they're in my Supra Quattros which have a fat midsole anyway so I don't need the impact protection. I have another pair for when I feel like switching them out or skating a thinner shoe.

I'd say you're good for a few months with a pair, minimum. I'm planning to continue to use the ones I'm running right now in my casual shoes after, it definitely becomes a bit flimsier, but is still far better than any thin eva insole.
