Unless both of my pairs happened to be defective or abnormal, State makes the stiffest and least comfy shoes in the game.

I should have gotten a life time supply of this particular model/ color way...

The material they used for the collar on the premium models feel awesome on my feet. I never understood why they didn't just make that collar a standard for the non-premium releases too.

Vans sk8 hi lite customs (free for sk8 shoe test participation) just arrived.

Too many options, took forever to settle on this colorway combo.

Those look great, how are they compared to regular sk8 hi's?

I just got a brand new pair of these as well. I don't know if I can bring myself to ever skate them because they are that good.

Also just got these in the mail, haven't skated em yet, but they feel like they would probably be awesome to due to the way the leather will age and develop patina

What's the sizing like? I'm normally a 10.5 in the new Emerica G6 shoes but I've never had a Chelsea style boot before so don't know what that's like.

True to size for me. When Emerica started the whole higher quality thing about 3 years back their shoes started to fit a little loose, but they have since fixed that issue. These fit quite snug height wise, but I think that is because the leather will loosen over time. All said, I'd go with your "normal" size and not try to get fancy by going down a size.

Are they planning on making an all black leather version?

The regular sk8 high 're-issues' are heavy and bulky, the lights, though without the the waffle gum sole (sad) are much much lighter and thinner in they upper, like they were in the 80s.

-Emerica Reynolds-
[close]

Can we get a review on these Firebert?
Sure, here's my best attempt at a pro-reviewer article:

SIZING

No issues here, I like my shoes to fit snug with little to no wiggle room, and these felt true to size. Not cramped but not slippery.

LOOK
I think the shoe looks great, there are nods to every previous model of his Emerica shoes, which at this point I believe is technically his 13th shoe. Obviously the rubber toe cap from the original Reynolds 1 is peaking out from the seam of the toe cap of the Reynolds 2, but  this seam is supposedly fused with the rubber, so you won't tear off the whole toe cap like you used to back in the day. The side panel is a nice homage to the 1's and 2's as well, with the outline around the E-logo made of the same rubber material on the toe (I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE BLACK/SILVER/GUM). The cutout on medial side of the sole is also exactly like the Reynolds 2, and the tongue and centering straps were inspired by his last shoe-which incorporated the lycra-like sock fit that these employ. The shape of the shoe is very wide compared to what I've become used to over the years, but it didn't take long  for me to get used to.

FEEL

Enough about looks, does it skate well? Just like I expected, the outsole feels identical to the last shoe (even though it's from the Westgate) - with the new "pour-in" g6 midsole which feels exactly like the last midsole of the Reynolds and they top it off with the same old 3mm insole (NOT THE RED ONE IN THE ADS) as well. The flick is great as usual - kickflips feel great - also after skating the puig adv for the last few months made these feel a bit like pillows around my feet - you can really feel the foam in the midsole compress when bailing out of tricks. Very stable and comfortable, the only issues and complaints people may have is that they might feel too bulky due to their getting used to slimmer shoes that are currently prevalent in the marketplace.

edit: DUARBILITY

Who knows?! I only skated them for 2 hours. They seem like tanks. Good job Emerica, and Andrew - you made an old fan proud.

Nice. Thanks for the heads-up.

Just saw that these are sold out in my size on the Emerica site. Anyone have any shops that I could order these from in 10.5?

Didn't see them anywhere else. You could go with the all black pony suede ones... they're pretty sweet too.

Yeah, I found them on Tactics. Which I've ordered from before and had no complaints but would rather try to order from a local shop first.

I always end up coming back to these. My favorite skate shoe of all time.
Also, did they change the fit/sizing for these and other vans? I usually wear a size 8.5 in these and the pair I had fit more like 9's; I had more toe room than I would've liked. I had to return em and get an 8 which fits more like how an 8.5 in these should fit, but just a tad bit more snug. I like my shoes to fit as snug as possible without feeling too tight so I couldn't handle that little bit of wiggle room I had for my toes with the 8.5's. I've never had this problem before with the countless pairs of old skools I've had in the past. Maybe they just botched the sizing for their most recent batch of shoes? Maybe my feet shrunk recently? Who knows.

I bought the Lakai Flacos a.k.a Los Zapatos por la patineta. It feels good to put my parents' money where my mouth is and supporting skater-owned.
I may have gone half size too small though, toes getting a bit strangled and hitting on the end a bit. Hopefully they will ease down and be perfect, otherwise I'm fucked.
