Some Kalis S I forgot about..they should look good with my Artform cargos.

Such a great and horrible shoe at the same time
[close]

Why are they horrible? I'm genuinely curious because I've been eyeing a pair.
[close]
IMO They are one of the best shoes out there, skate so good, last a long time, break in quick. The only not so tiny detail is the fact that once you blow through the lace loops the fit of the shoe is pretty much fucked.
[close]

That shoe looks like a mullet. That long ass flat clean vamp is such a eyesore to me, been done to death and it just doesn’t go well with the rest of the bulky/detailed upper imo...
Can't remember if it was this shoe or the last Kalis shoe, but I recall someone on here saying they look like Darkwing Duck's plane.

This. In white they look great, really fresh and almost look like a basketball shoe and would gladly wear it as a chiller. They fit my wide foot well and the padding is nice for grocery store runs.

Pros - padding is amazing, outsole and upper are durable (only needed shoe goo after 6-8 sessions when I usually need it after 2 for vulcs), flick is surprisingly good, pill pattern thread is really grippy, slip-on design for easy access, heel sits deep in the sole for more catch during heelflips (if I could do them)

Cons - 3 lace loop design, blow 1 of them out and you're fucked, 3 loops doesn't get the shoe as snug as I like and my foot swims within the shoe, outsole is glued (not stitched) to the shoe and is showing signs of separation from the upper even around the heel area (I do zero heelflips)

Could have been an amazing shoe if they slimmed it down and married this with the Kalis Vulc. Cupsole + better lace loops, clean design.

Had a pair of these in summer 2019, such a great shoe. I wish they'd re-release a slb with some more padding as those were on the thinner side around the ankles and only good for warm weather, atleast imo.

Thanks for the info! I might have to try a pair. I almost never rip laces so maybe I'll avoid the lace loops breaking.

A couple of dabs of super glue or shoe goo over the lace loops should prevent ripping, but won't stop the shoe from not being as snug as I would like. A friend of mine added an additional lace loop near the top by punching a hole there so there's that workaround.

Got another pair at home too; stimulus money well spent. Not sure if they discontinued the OGs or not, they don’t have them on the Vans site anymore, all they have are the new “skate” edition ones now that look almost identical to the OGs, they appear just to be a rebranded Half Cab Pro. Had to get these off skatewarehouse. I hope the OGs are still being made, I’m too used to them to switch.

Are those the laces they came with? I got a pair today and they came with regular skinny Vans laces and yours look much bigger aka like they're supposed to. My OG pair has stock laces and they are what I was hoping for but they're pretty scuzzy to put in new shoes. The new ones are short too. Had to skip the top eyelet which was no prob but I can't imagine if I wanted to lace them all the way up.

Had my first session in the Crockett Highs yesterday. Feels like a really solid shoe. Coming from primarily pro classics the sole is definitely much more stiff than I'm used to. But they feel good and I think after another session or two they'll broken in to my liking.

I haven't bought any in a while, but the OG Half Cabs always came with wider laces, even the ones I saw in the shop recently, but who knows how old they are or whether or not they are going to keep them going.  A few local shops just got another drop of the OG Half Cabs too, even with Vans having them on clearance on their online store here in AU, but I have always been surprised at how often they come in, don't sell, clear out, then sure enough next year, get more of the same shoes only now they are a higher price, don't sell, clear out, etc.

The OG laces are about 160 cms I think.  All the pro Half Cabs over the years have always had thinner laces, mostly the same width as Old Skool or Sk8 Hi shoes, as I have swapped some in and out and they are about the same length, depending on certain versions - 150 to 180 cms.

Before the current Vans Skate lines, the most current pro Half Cab shoes I got had slightly shorter plain thinner black and white laces, but a different material to either of the other sorts I have had before.  I swapped them straight out for some others I had, which made me feel more normal.
I measured the width of the OG laces and they are bang on 1cm. Found some online that are 132cm which according to some vans.uk chart I found is what they would put in an 8 hole. This is my first pair that wasn't OG because I didn't think the Pros heel collar was stiff enough which is for me the main reason to love the shoe. Didn't know they come standard with regular laces. That sucks a bit since they put the proper ones in the OGs so it's not like those laces are discontinued. I do like the Skate version a lot, lace grumbling aside. It legit feels like a modernized version of the OG to me.

Re Skate verson of the Half Cab = Nice!

Not to keep harping on, but I forgot to mention that in most of mine (as I just put on the new pair I got out the other day) but until the tongue flattens down or the suede stretches out a bit, when brand new the regular OG normal laces also feel very short, but after a couple of skates they end up having plenty of length in my Half Cabs.  I have a few cartons of them, from every time they go on sale, about 12 pairs in a carton, but don't go through them that quickly so often forget how the new ones feel again.

Damn, I'd love a picture of all those half cabs!

Some recent Joslins

Then I finally got around to skating these Tyshawns. I bought them online in my normal size (9.5). But they were too tight. I thought I could just stretch them out by wearing them around. But that didn't work. So I bought a shoe stretcher. Put it to use and they fit better now. Skated them for 3 days. Still pinching my toes together. I'm giving up on them. I got 1 clip in them. And they were on sale for less than $50. Hopefully I can find someone who they fit and would like them.

Back to another pair of Joslins. I love this shoe!

Yeah, I've had 3 pairs of Tyshawns, the green ones that first came out, these black ones and the white leather (with red stripes) and these black ones were the only ones that didn't fit. I tried stretching them too and that didn't work so I gave them to a kid I know at the skatepark. The other two pairs fit perfectly though.
