i love clyde singleton. i really do. i've always dug his skating, and honestly always find him really funny. that article he did on why i shouldn't hate sheckler was so fucking stupid though. first off, i don't hate sheckler, i've never even met that guy. i do however think sheckler is a fucking wiener. since when did doing the mega ramp and having money make you a really cool person? i though being a cool person transcended skateboarding and kinda delved into the whole personality thing. YES, sheckler has more money than i do, but then again 50 cent probably has way more money than someone like jeru the damaja, but who would you feel more legit bumping in your car? i seriously think i paid more attention to not liking ryan sheckler when i was reading that interview than i have ever before. this reminds me of a conversation i had 8 years ago in ninth grade with my friend when he swore that nelly was better music than wu-tang. i asked why, and his answer was "he's getting money." i was blown away. how is that even a factor? why would i like someone because they have something? i'm pretty much just ranting right now but i'd much easier respect a skateboarder who is going to school and managing to skate and get some coverage, because then at least you know he has his priorities straight and understands that this little candyland life we've made for ourselves won't last forever. anyway, i just thought this was funny that someone made a topic about this, because when i read that article i almost considered making one myself.

look at it in terms of contributions....  so many east coast heads have been contributing to the scene for years since the eastern exposure days, and what has sheckler contributed to skateboarding?  a shitty tv show on MTV that misrepresents skateboarding to the masses, making it seem that it kooks like him that constitute skateboarding....

Sheckler is worthy of a tv show for reasons which have nothing to do with his skateboarding. He is an enormous rich kid, who allows mtv to take advantage of his puberty by doing that show. What bugs me about Sheckler is that skaters like Danny Way hook him up on companies, while sheckler embodies what skateboarding shouldn't be.

Period.  So why stick your nose in other peoples personal lives.  I mean yeah the show is gay.  But truly hes a nice kid.  Hes got good tricks and good style.  Skateboarding is supposed to be an outlet of freedom in your life and if he wants to pursue what he does, fine with me.  Hes not really doing any thing but helping skateboarding get bigger.  People that say they are devastated by shecklers show "Ruining skateboarding"  when i go out and skate sheckler doesnt effect my front tails, tres, or any other thing in my life for that matter.  Hating just gets old.  Im over it.

Why would we like skateboarding to get bigger, it's huge already. Above that with what are skateboarders benefited if there are more of us? Indeed prices of product can decrease, more people get hooked up, and you will not be the onle skateboarder at your school. Ohh it can get massively bigger. The problem is there are pro's and con's.

For example one great pro would be more good skateparks in lesser populated area's, but a con would be that the thing is history shows a boom in skateboarding is almost always followed by a bust. Ignore the warnings from those who remember dark times at your peril.

Massive commercialisation ruins part of the essence of skateboarding that is important to many. Selling out, advertising pile's cream, doing whatever to get that buck when you don't need it dilutes it, and puts it in the hands of the corporates. When that happens it's no longer "our thing" (just realised the Cosa Nostra parallel haha).

Sheckler is a kook, and the reason skateboarders in general hate him is because there is enough exposure of him that we can make our own judgment just fine. I agree with edward, stop pushing him on us. No matter how hard you push him we won't bite, and in fact we probably will start to aim our aggression at the magazines who publish him. So if you want to lose readership in your hardcore market for some short term teeniebopper sales, go ahead. Until then, there are a lot of guys, not just underground 30+ east coast dudes, who many skateboarders would love to see printed more.
Whoever said "Sheckler skates everyday" or whatever:
1) How the fuck would you know? His show does not seem to center around a normal 17-18 year old skaterat, but on some douchebag prep type who is all about chilling on the beach in orange county with his gelled up hairdo friends
2) Any time he talks about skating he relates it to his career- meaning even if he does skate everyday he still sucks.

Skate mags want to sell a lot of issues because the whole industry is having problems so by putting someone like Sheckler in their mags they assume that a bunch of stupid girls and non-skater Sheckler fans will buy the issue getting them more money. At least Slap made up for it with a good article on pool skating.
