My best friend’s deep in a “creative/artistic/philosophical” phase right now and starting to get pretty kooky.

I’ve known him for 15 years and he’s neither creative, artistic nor philosophical, but he’s been getting weird since October. I wonder if the drug use and heavy drinking from his college days is slowly getting to him. He doesn’t really do drugs anymore, he’s replaced that with extra booze. Kinda worried to be honest.
[close]

how old are you guys? some people go through a weird re-inventive phase after college. it's a strangely competitive phase in life for a lot of people and many have to look for ways to make themselves seem interesting and cultured. by the time you hit 30 you realize that nobody cares how unique and different you are and you can stop trying so hard.
[close]

We’re both going to be 31 in February, that’s why I’m getting worried.

We all go through weird phases, I know that, but this feels different. I know something’s up but he keeps telling me everything’s fine. He carries a notebook full of gibberish, random words and ‘deep thoughts’ with him everywhere, writes shitty lyrics to folk songs he wants to record even though he can’t play the guitar to save his life and has been drinking a ton of wine since early December. He’s been wanting to lose weight and get into better shape lately (good), but has basically made his diet consist of carrots, red peppers, and red wine and weird yoga poses that don’t work (i’m not knocking it, yoga has helped me a lot for jiu-jitsu). I showed up to his place the other day and at 6pm he was already done with his second bottle of wine and about to start his third until I talked him into taking it easy and to have some coffee. The rest of the evening was him being philosophical and trying to be ‘deep’ and me changing the subject to bring him back down to earth . I wanted to leave but didn’t want to leave him alone.

I talked to his mother about it and she told me ‘oh he’s just artistic’. No the fuck he isn’t, and she knows it.

This part is brutal, you're a good friend for sticking around

But we sure as hell know what it aint
Wait we know what it is now too -

Girlfriend is undergoing her tests for the cancer again.
Every 6 months it's 3 weeks of pure hell:

'Will it be back', 'Will she be ok?'...

The stress is unbearable, so it  shwos in other forms. Rash break-outs, depressed etc.
I can't even describe how I feel.

This sucks, I feel very very helpless:(

My fiance has this for ovarian/cervical cancer, 2 scares, Has to be tested yearly.
It's the worst, especially as there's largely nothing you can do but show support.

Feel for you dude, it's the worst.

Yup it's the worst... and no on can understand how terrified you get and can't do anything.

All the best for your girl as well. Hope it will be nothing but good news for you guys too.

(PS: it's cervical cancer here too)

The internets freakin me out.  Im reading that cgi in the next couple of years will not be disearnable from video.  Think about that.  There will be no ryme or reason at that point.  What shreds of accountability that platform economy corp. government has remaining will no longer exist.

I fucking busted my ass for the 50 bucks for trucks. It took 7 hrs. Everyone is sold out of 5.6s. 5.8 is little too big. I like my ace 8.38.

Thats as big as I really wanna go.

I shouldn't have given away my 149s. The kid was on 129s with an 8.38 board. I had to help them.

Lost our house in a bad storm today. Tree fell on the entire front and destroyed damn near everything in those areas. It nearly killed my wife... I’m grateful to be alive, but I don’t think we’ll ever recover fully.

Really sorry about this, man. I saw it on Instagram and couldn't believe it. Really glad you guys are ok.

You don't have to, but I think it would be a good idea to share your go fund me here in slap. You just lost your home and there's no shame in asking for help.

I was about to post about how I have to wait 25 hours to hear how much of a raise I’m going to get and read this, instantly placing perspective on how stupid and small my complaint would have been.

I posted this in UWTB for more visibility. That is a major loss and I’m sorry you had to (and continue) go through that tragedy. Keep your head up, continue to protect the fam and everything is going to be OK.

My girlfriend is a teacher and today a little girl walked up to her with a spent shell casing and said a boy told her he had bullets and that he had a gun. The little girl was scared and told my girlfriend not to say anything. She got security and some kid in some other class had actual bullets in his bag and I guess was claiming he was going to bring a gun the next day. I am so fucking thankful that girl was brave enough to say something considering how scared she was and how my girlfriend handled it super chill. It's especially freaky because I fell asleep watching the Newtown documentary last night and was reading about it today. Then my girlfriend texts me saying all this shit that happened. That doc was so sad and imaging anything happening to her or anyone else terrifies me. Kids are so fucking stupid.

I am having a hard time really making friends or even wanting to be friendly, yesterday I was on my laptop listening to music while browsing slap and this group of people come up next to me and start talking super loudly, I really wanted to them to move but decided not to be a prick and left. Found a nice quite place to watch some Anthony Fantano. People fucking suck, all these "Friends" I have are nothing but a bunch of self centered cucks.

First thing I woke up to on my way to work this morning, my car's window got busted in last night, literally only had a t shirt in my back seat. My car is nothing fancy it's a little beater but I love her so this shit broke my heart. Now i have to invest in a new driver side window and an alarm to prevent this from happening again. Fucking scumbag thief

An alarm won't prevent it from happening again. It'll just let you know when it happens.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

I found out that a big portion of the staff at my company has already hired a lawyer to help prevent our company from moving to an actual city and not this tiny town we currently work in. It has been a plan since the start of the company to move to a city eventually to get more high-level, rich as fuck clients who visit the city.

These people are all small-town folks, and I hate to say it, but are closed-minded bumpkins. They're proud to be racist and homophobic. They have never traveled outside of the town (maybe once or twice in their lives) and they have no intention of doing so. We asked one lady to take a trip with us but she's afraid to get on a plane. She's 50 years old.

The company needs to grow because I want to make some real fucking money, but with these idiots holding us back we will be stuck here forever. Just an endless cycle of bullshit and stagnation.

Since I've learned about this situation I'm just mad all the time at these people (I am the manager) and don't know how to snap out of it. They are fucking up my life, but I need them in the short term. So I'm just a horrible dick at work now. It's been one week since I found out and it's an especially stressful time at work, so it all adds up, but I just don't know if I can ever be nice to these people anymore.

I don't know if I should tell my boss (the owner of the company) or if I should try to forget about it. It could be just a rumor that isn't true, I have only heard the info second-hand.

Wow...I am going through a lot of weird stuff at work right now but that's on another level. If their actions are holding your company back from growing, it's time to restructure. I can't imagine being a manager but as a manager, you have the power to be the mediator between your team and the owner of the company. I would definitely bring it up to your boss, because eventually, it will get around.

Take care of your teeth guys.

Although mine look fine cosmetically I found out there are two lingering infections, 4 holes that need to be filled, and gum disease. I'm about to be homeless and I don't know if I can afford more than a few sessions at a dentist.

Ive been sick for 3 days. My wife got a bad cold while we were whale watching last weekend and passed that onto me.

I’ve been stuck in our apartment and eating garbage. I rigged my Camel Back with a string so that I can hang it on the side of my bed or the side of the couch for easy access to hydration.

Great advice! That’s something good managers do. At my work none of the managers talk to the higher ups about our concerns. Morale is low. I’m the only one who speaks up about what everyone is talking about.

Been feeling really lonely lately. Met this girl who I'd like to be friends with so I can talk to someone who is close by. I have "friends" but they suck. All they do is complain about gay rights n stuff. Which is fine but it's not for me. I just want to be friendly to all people, not exclude people because of their beliefs. Like when I would hang out with my friends who happen to be dating one another, why would I watch them make out and shit. Maybe I'm the problem but when I'm with others I actually enjoy talking to them.

Thetes a back lip on a ledge on the cover of Thrasher.

Whats next months cover stink bug over the channel with PADS?

Thats the kid who fucking did the  "only you will survive" line in Hawaii through the tunnel.

Ill never forget that line it was so beautiful. I watched it over and over and over. I never do that anymore.

But every lip on a ledge is a missed opportunity for a nose blunt.

This bacic science. Lip a ledge -100 dont film it.

If i was looking at sponsorship tapes today id send back one or two boards and say observe the f14 and send another tape.

Im sorry knox. You can dish it so you should be able to take it.
