I took my dad to see Indiana Jones 5 in the theater, just to say we went together to see them all over 42(?) years.
It was somewhat better than Crystal Skull. Less dumb plot overall, less bad CG, less Lebeouf. It still feels adequately like an Indiana Jones movie. A surprising bit of pathos. I liked Fleabag but her character isn’t written cohesively.
On the negative side, there’s way too much CG period - character’s faces are pasted on digital doubles constantly, a lot of locations look fake and Marvel-like, the chases are too plentiful and don’t convey place and logic like Spielberg can (still some clever bits), some plot holes feel like they are entirely caused by script meddling/carelessness, and there is a bit of a meanness that seems out of tradition with the franchise, having bad guys killing civilians willy nilly.
As a fan I’d give it a 6.5 or 7 but I’m not sure if someone with no affinity for the series would rate it that high.
