Hi
I'm thinking of buying a fisheye lens for my Canon 30D. I'm not able to buy a new ?600 or whatever one, so I checked ebay and there are multiple fisheyes for sale for like 30-60$. I don't intend on bidding on one of them since I don't really trust the quality.

So my question is, what would be a good price for a quality second hand fisheye lens ? Should I trust buying one second hand ? And am I foolish for thinking I can buy something of decent quality for ?200 ?

[close]

You'll get what you pay for. All those things on E-bay are usually circular fisheye attachments...like some lomo fisheyes. If you are into that, then by all means get it but it isn't a true fisheye. Even the cheaper fisheyes from other 3rd party companies will give you some crapy results regardless of the look. More then likely it will not be as clear, fast nor will it probably auto focus on your camera.

The only real fisheye I would recommend is the Tokina 10-17 for a crop frame Canon (next to that would be the Sigma). It's still pricey as hell but it is the cheapest and the best in the market:

If you can afford it, get this one. A friend of mine has it for his 7D and its sick as hell. I bought the Opteka 6.5, one of the generic ones like Peleng (sp?) Samyang that are 8mm, would have rather invested the other 400$ and bought the tokina.

I finally got my hands on some Polaroid. Too bad they're developing horribly:

wrong temperature ... polaroid can be a pain in the ass, when you don't have a fridge and use some special kind of film.

For all you digital fans out there. New Canon Fisheye 8-15mm zoom L-lens. This shit is nuts:

I actually think this lens is better for cropped frame cameras like the 7D. You can get some crazy distortion at 8mm (15mm equivalent on a full frame) and good decent wide shots at 15mm. But on a  full frame, you'll get a circular fisheye look at 8mm. Shit costs about $1400 though....but since it is an L-lens, it should be pretty fucking sweet.

Also they released the new Canon 60D.....which is the competitor to the Nikon D90 (new one announcing on September 15th is called the D7000)

nice! I've been out shooting for a bit today, but I think it will suck. this 80mm lens is a pain in the ass.

anyway: I think I kinda want to get rid of my canon eos 5 and get a nicer 35mm. is there something solid besides a laica and a voigtl?nder/bessa? maybe a half frame or something? I have an old minolta at home, that I could use as a ready to go camera, but the elctronic sucks. some ideas?

if you're looking for an SLR, try a nikon fm/fm2/fe.  they're sturdy and work great, plus there are a lot of old and new lenses available (compatible with new nikon AI lenses).

another camera I've had a real good experience with is the minolta SRT 101:

these ones are mini tanks, and can go through all kinds of conditions. just make sure you test the lightmeter on it properly, as it's a bit fiddly.

edit: oops forgot to add, it might be a little harder to find lenses for the minolta.  and also that's a sick photo fongstarr!

So you're saying that the film got too cold/warm? I kept it in a fridge for a week or two.

I have shot some polaroids and I own 3of these sweethearts...

mostly my photos doesn't come out like I planned either. that's pretty much the beauty of it !

I dunno what film you use but
if you use impossibles PXfilm you should cover it from light after taking your photo and put it immediately in a case or something...
first package of b&w film I shot turned out yellowish cause the photo got exposed after it got out..now I have a black sheet taped on my camera so the photo slides under it. after that I put the polaroid in my camerabag and everything turned out 'better'

you might have a different reason why your polaroids turn out like they do. good luck 'n try to figure it out, films kinda expensive nowadays for sure

its hard to say.. some polaroid film lasts longer than others. Ive come across yellow, green, and orange maybe. But never purple.. it almost looks as though youre using a filter. the film could just be too fucked up.. like you said, too cold/warm.

I've already taken some shots, but my computer doesn't want to read my Canon. If you could help, that'd be awesome.

Anyways, for the mean time, some sk8 photos from my blackberry. I know, they're really good. I think I'm gonna get hired by the skate shop or something.
