no complaints here. except for maybe that i am planning a trip to copenhagen right now as well and i would?ve preffered artsy shots of the most blown out touristic spots there. but hey, you know that i am gonna deliver those for sure!

Good stuff Matze.
You are correct with you math, it's all a game of halves and doubles (or "stops" to specific).
You could get an external light meter.  I've had a digital Sekonic for years, definitely worth it.

I have a sekonic too, but I figured out that a metering with camera works better at night for me. maybe I just need to trust the sekonic a little more, haha.

Are those birds real? Really tripping me out!

I ran into this guy the day before I took the pic driving to work out of my neighborhood. He swooped down and picked up the read rabbit from the road. I don't think it was road kill considering it wasn't flattened. Well, saw him chilling in my tree before work so I snapped a pic.

From an art show/misc, was too busy drinking and not enough photo taking.

this is one for the medium-format guys here: a good friend of mine bought a Kiev 88, but it seems as if the film-transport mechanism is broken. does anyone here have any first hand experience or sth with that problem.
(we know that there?s a shitload of tutorials for that online, but still i guess i might ask the friendly folks here.)

amidst the doom and gloom, a reassuring article from the BJP:

"Film (still and cinema) remains a profitable business for Kodak, and we have the broadest and most respected portfolio of films in both segments," Audrey Jonckheer, Kodak's worldwide director of marketing and public relations, tells BJP.

Jonckheer adds: "We remain committed to make film as long as there is profitable demand for it. And as I noted, it is still profitable."

since I'm shooting mostly at night times these days I was a little bummed about the meter inside the camera. the longest shutter (besides bulb) is 2 seconds, which means you cannot meter the light with a 4.5 aperture and a iso 100 film when it's dark. after I shot the role I found a simple trick: just put the camera on iso 1600. with the help of math this allows you to have 30 seconds more ... imagine the camera shows you 2 seconds at iso 1600 and a 4.5 aperture. this would be at iso 800 about 4 seconds, at iso 400 8 seconds, at iso 200 16 seconds and at iso 100 32 seconds .. hopefully I'm right with this one. this will hopefully work.

This would be the correct way to go about when shooting digital. Thinking in stops and adjusting. However, with film you have to take into consideration the reciprocity failure. This means that you'll need a longer exposure then the meter tells you and you should probably bracket to be on the safe side.

I apologize if you already know this stuff. Just wanted to make sure that you remembered that when it comes to film + long shutter speeds, you actualy need more exposure then indicated by meter.

Here's a link if you want to read up more: http://home.earthlink.net/~kitathome/LunarLight/moonlight_gallery/technique/reciprocity.htm

I started shooting with a Canon AE-1 Program, which can be fully automatic or manual, which I liked. I still use it for street photography from time to time because it can be fully automatic. It's also pretty cheap and you can find it virtually anywhere, usually in sets with multiple lenses, filters, flashes, and whatnot.

to balance the canon/nikon scale, i'll go ahead and suggest the nikon FE.  i picked it up for cheap to complement my nikon F and love it.  it's great because it accepts older non-AI nikkor lenses as well as the newer autofocus ones (so long as they still have an aperture ring intact).  lightweight, compact, and either fully manual or automatic.

also consider the pentax ME/ME super.  it was my first real film SLR, took that shit everywhere.

i have that one, i can recommend it as well. feels indestructible and yet so small and lightweight you can bring it everywhere.

I don't really know if Amazon is going to have all you're looking for when it comes to old used cameras. I'd advise taking a look at www.keh.com

Also I've got a Nikon FM2n and I absolutely love it. Sturdy, fully mechanical and fully manual.

can never go wrong with a 50mm f/2 to start.  for an affordable nikkor, look up the 50mm f/2 HC-auto.  sharp and comparatively compact.  here's a nice page about classic nikkor 50's:  http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/50mmnikkor/index1.htm
browse around for awhile, the place is a goldmine for classic nikon information.
