Yeah, I'm a huge fan of his work. Definitely a huge influence on me.

Rad pics as always Fongstarr. I have a question for you and anyone else who takes photos. Have you ever tried submitting your photos for stock photography sites to try to make some money on the side? I'm sure it's hard to make anything decent of that, but was wondering if anyone has tried that.

Never thought of it really. Honestly my stuff is a total dime a dozen where you couldn't steal these photos on Flickr and what not. I mean if the concept is super easy to make money, I'd sort of consider it but it's also like makes your photos more like shit since you are treating it like a money item. Not to say mine are even worth buying but the shit I take, I sort of don't want it on some corporate site or whatever. I guess that is my opinion......unless the Hyatt wants to give me thousands of dollars and some hotel stay.

it's not worth it, especially if you want to use your photos for anything in the future. Getty contacted me through flickr essentially offering to license some of my images. Naturally I was interested but after doing some quick research online I was immediately turned off to the idea. http://www.jmg-galleries.com/blog/2009/01/22/flickr-collection-on-getty-why-im-not-taking-part/

you would probably make more money selling your prints yourself. Getty/other stock photo sites want to get as many photos as they can for as cheap as they can. don't expect to make a ton of money by selling your own prints either but if you're proud of your work and are willing to grind to make money off your photos, do it yourself because in the long run you'll thank yourself for not selling out to the quickest bidder.

it's really hard for unknown photographers to make money online (and in general) but if you make sincere connections with other photographers and build up a following, you will have a better chance of selling prints.
It also helps to keep in mind the audience you are selling to. Chances are, the general public will not be interested in hanging up your awesome 14x14 medium format print of johnny rad doing a feeble on a 12 stair. why would they? same goes for most snapshots, portraits of friends, and "lifestyle" stuff. YOU know the kind of photographs the general public is interested in. Just walk around any art/wine festival and you'll see booths with various photographers essentially selling the same photos. Ask yourself if compromising your creative integrity is worth a few extra bucks.
In my opinion, the more you shoot the more you'll develop a personal style that will appeal to a certain group of people. these are the people that will buy your prints.

idk hopefully that made sense, i'm tired haha.

I'm no expert but these are just things i've noticed/thought about

Shooting on an Xpan, Matze?  I'm jealous, such nice cameras.  Really like the portrait as well.

thanks man! it's actually a fuji tx-1, which was developed by hasselblad and fuji, was produced by fuji and sold in europe as the xpan. it's the same camera (the xpan looks really ugly compared to the fuji, but that houldn't count)

edit: I'll put some more in here, currently scanning the last film.

The wife and I went on a 2 year anniversary road trip up the 1 and these are some of my favorite pics from the trip. I kept pulling over to stop and take photos because that road is so beautiful. Big Sur is epic!

I'm doing a show tomorrow - hoping to make sales to pay rent.

I photographed a fallen tree the other day - the stomp / roots some how translated into a a dead pigs face. It's quite sinister but I love it.
