I understand that this isn't the case for every skater, but I think the thing that these sorts of products miss is that many (most?) of us actually very much enjoy skating a new skateboard.

Your regular decks aren’t going anywhere. The DBX decks are meant for people who are heavier or break boards frequently. As of now, there are only two logo decks [in 8.5” and 8.25”] per brand, aside from a GT one in the summer.

With respect, clearly my point is not that I am concerned that conventional skateboards will disappear, it's that most skaters don't mind snapping decks because skaters like to buy and setup new skateboards. This is the problem that all of these heavy duty skateboards always face, and the reason why Powell Flight Decks didn't set the industry ablaze.

You are probably right. However, I know when I was in my late teens early 20s, these types of boards would have been a life-saver. Breaking boards every 2 to 4 weeks and having to scrape together funds for a board sucked...  was stressful at times... I had to plan out when to do lipslldes, tre-flips and big gaps according to how much money I didn't have...

Can't remember the last board I cracked... but I will still try a DBX b/c I'm a sucker... and to compare to Craig's Pop Secrets's and whatever tech NHS uses...

Hope to see a wider variety of shapes and sizes at some point though.

I think the incentive for me on trying them was just them lasting more than a 2 to 3 days.

Most of the complaints from my homies and the kids i encounter with technology decks is that they chip easier and that they don't sound/feel like a 7 ply wood deck. Funnily enough I've heard the same about palace/dsm decks due to epoxy instead of glue bonding, dsm/palace sound different.

Speaking of epoxy/R7 decks, I've grown to like them a lot. They can take a whole lot, I mean, significantly more abuse than normal 7-ply decks, and seem to last me quite a bit longer. I might be in the minority, but I enjoy the stiffness and the snappy pop.

You are not alone; always prefer R7s, such a great amount of flex/pop/rigidity. Also prefer DSM (Jacuzzi/opera NHS/etc.) over anything these days; crail is nice and stiff as well, just so much heavier than anything out there.

Definitely true, but I think there's a limit to that. If you're skating hard every day, jumping down big stuff, heavier than average, or just a prolific board breaker due to something about the way you skate; there has to be a point where the 'oooh, new board!' feeling turns to 'ugh, another new board to pay for and set up.' If you're satisfied with how long a regular board lasts you or they send you boards for free, then yeah, you don't need pricey tech boards.

NHS decks aren't DSM anymore. Still good with strong resin, though.

The SW price is insane

At least I can clearly see "Made in Mexico" on the warning sticker, so they are still being made at BBS as per some people wondering if, what or where.

Gone since 1988.  I talk too much about skateboards.  Sorry.

Skatewarehouse.com always ups their shit and then their sale price is the same as retail in small shops

While I’ve not yet had the privilege of sampling one myself, I’ve heard all kinds of positive talk around “the office” about these.
Looking forward to a real world report from our man @Fifty8mm on their longevity.
Sort of slots into that “pay more, get more” model of consumerism & I can’t lie, I’m curious as fuck about these thing’s real world durability.
Until I hear otherwise, I’m still choosing (out of optimism) to believe the hype on these bad boys.
Boards been feeling super crisp still, as it should.
I did land wrong on fs noselide amd dragged my tail, on rougher ground and it does look about the same as a regular deck. I'm kinda hyped of getting to the basalt layer to hear how it sounds.

I did stomp the hell of a sw flip earlier today on flat, half of my front foot on the tail and half on the bolts and i heard a crack or similar. Could not find the crack or even feel the boards structure change. Pop feels just as crisp but... i do hear this crackling sound lol idk if i should keep skating it or pass it on to some skinny foo. Im 238 pounds again dammit.
Edit.
I removed the washers and waxed my pivot cup to eliminate any or source of crackling noise.

Yup. Always buy my DLX products from them as they are always chepaer / fast shipping (if they have it in stock). I'm in a manual phase (rare) so I'm skipping these.

Also because some shops won't carry the flight decks.  I stopped into one of my locals a couple months back asking about them and they said they didn't carry them because they last too long and they need kids to break decks to be able to sell decks and stay in business.  If they sold flights they wouldn't make as much money.

I doubt they will have a DBX in stock.

What a lame shop.
