Everyone saying price point is the way to go but I don’t think price point is gonna be possible anymore in trumps America . We’re about to see boards get the market correction we’ve been avoiding for decades. Basic maple boards gonna be $110 by next year. Why not just buy the $120 board that lasts as long as 2 regular boards at that point.

jim release the code of hammurabi deck

The Code of Hammurabi is a Babylonian legal text composed during 1755–1750 BC. It is the longest, best-organized, and best-preserved legal text from the ancient Near East. It is written in the Old Babylonian dialect of Akkadian, purportedly by Hammurabi, sixth king of the First Dynasty of Babylon. The primary copy of the text is inscribed on a basalt stele 2.25 m (7 ft 4+1⁄2 in) tall.

My local received a batch and each of their 3 employees that tried one broke it within a week (these dudes break a lot of decks normally and one tested a deck in lieu of his pro deck). They might be more immune to chipping and razor tail, but aren't completely indestructible. The shop owner doesn't want to bring that many in since they're worried that a lot of parents will buy them for their kids, the deck ends up broken, then the parent is pissed the shop pushed a more durable deck on them. True fit price points make more sense from a market perspective.

They’re not advertising them as being completely indestructible though. Kinda sus that each employee broke one within a week. Are these dudes just stomping down front lips on flatbars or what?

I thought that video was pretty sick. More genuine than the usual skate tech marketing videos.

Will try one of these for sure. Why the hell not?

It's like Fibreglass and Carbon Fibre fabric but has slightly different properties. It's made by melting rocks and then squeezing it out into a ultra-thin fibres which then get woven into a cloth. It's quite popular as a material for surfboards although it's not that common. I have a roll of Basalt cloth which I use for making Powder Surfers. Adding a composite fabric like this with an epoxy matrix to a wood laminate imparts significant torsional strength and rigidity.

I guess they are comparable to flight decks: Won't break (easily), but razor tail the same or even faster than 7-ply decks.

That (and the shapes) is the reason I won't buy a flight deck again

How are these basalt layers different from carbon fiber/kevlar/aramid? Just cheaper? I guess it's more akin to fiberglass, no? Or is there a patent issue with carbon fiber and this is a way around it? I've always liked P2 and Impact Plus. Never enough to pay the ~2x MSRP, but on the sale rack I've snatched those tings up with the shittiest graphics imaginable.

More likely, they just didn’t want to advertise them as carbon when VX, flight and impact are on the market

Why not just buy the $120 board that lasts as long as 2 regular boards at that point.

That's $120 before the tariffs. Since it's using composite material, it's probably being produced in China and subject to whatever onerous tax is finally decided upon.

what do you mean avoiding market correction decks cost 78$ now dude and that's from a bigger shop. A small shop is likely doing closer to $90 a deck
