These are my people.
I am forever going between 8 and 8.25. Why is it so hard to find a reliable 8?
I should stick with 8.125. I never have an issue with them. 3/4 of my stack is 8.125, so I’m nearly there. The rare Krooked/dlx 8.12 shape is so damn good.
this topic is relatable.
to me it feels almost generational: i came of age in the 7.5-7.75 era. if i wanted to land a handful of tricks that i cannot do, now, i could setup a light green ah eagle, and have some day success/get real close. my problem is that ive ended up skating 5.0 HIs on that board, and it looks insane/‘pinner’.
an 8 on indy’s was the logical step up for many from the aforementioned 7.75 times. a little more height compared to the low trucks that many of us had been riding, the scaling up worked well.
then some cool young bucks moved the goalposts yet further. 8.25s. suddenly going from feeling confident on the court, to being the old sweaty guy in the pickup game of hoops.
what i love about this question, 8 vs 8.25, is that it feels very 2010.
in our current times, even 8 trucks are ‘too small’.
144s/148s/5.6s are there for us half-steppers. a size too practical to be really cool looking.!
none of what i just typed in, is true or real
@ok boomer throwing a single 8.25 at your existing trucks and wheels will look insane from the top down view, for the first few sessions, and then you won’t notice it. might flip better on some tricks too
@fur lined sea what trucks do you use? 8.125s had the similar quandary for me, that 7.75s had: am i using 8 or 8.25 trucks? the 8.12 you mentioned was a rare beast. that was the shorter one yeah? i miss that shape. godking b.worrest running that one in a particular setup video from way back that i’ve watched way way too many times.
