Just got tickets for this this weekend.   Hoping it lives up to the Raid hype

Can confirm is a great Kung fu movie.   In the same neighborhood as The Raid fight scene quality

Caught an early showing of Disclosure Day.

No spoilers here. All I will say is that it is a very sentimental and human story that keeps you fully engaged throughout the entire film. It has some Minority Report vibes, and obviously some Close Encounters and some of the thrilling and earnest moments that harken back to E.T. It definitely feels like Spielberg's most creatively experimental approach with many of the camera movements and shots, which all work very well.

As for the performances of the actors — all top-notch. Emily Blunt is truly incredible in this film. Her range is insane.

John Williams' score is fantastic and adds that special magic.

Will probably see it again because some dude next to me was hardcore munching on his popcorn and it was a bit distracting at times.

Glad you liked it, yours is the first mildly posiitve review I've come across.  I'd still rather watch Brad Pitt get pulled out of a lake by his dog, Incredible Journey style.

Yeah, I was just pointing out the positives of the film. If you want the negatives, here you go - the CGI looks AI generated, the scope of the story is small, David Koepp is a shitty screenwriter, and the ending will frustrate people greatly.

The new Ayer/Pitt/German Shepherd movie looks way better than Dog Stars, so might be a good one.

Saw Obsession last night. Went into it blind didn't watch trailer haven't seen anything online about it somehow except the couple reactions in this thread, which weren't positive, so that instilled low expectations, which continued as I tried to impartially watch the slow start.

I liked it. 4/4. I sat on that with the hope to stave off recency bias, and I do have criticisms, but overall it's just too good. I'm not one to be rattled by jump scares but there was one that absolutely fucked me up. It's not a movie I'd immediately watch again but, I left the theater feeling like I just experienced trauma. That shit lasted. Wife and I talked about it for 45 mins. How often do you leave the theater exhausted from what you'd seen? Damn. I had times of nervousness, chills, legit fear. That was an experience.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

I was reading news.com.au which is probably exactly where I went wrong but they had some stupid article the other day plugging some stupid movie

I should have known better, but the (online) journalist was saying how this is the best trailer for a movie ever and how it’s gonna be such a good movie

I was like, ok, I can’t remember the last time I saw a good movie let’s have a suss

What a piece of shit

The guy who wrote the book just won a Pulitzer (top literary prize in the US) for a different book so I’m more intrigued than I normally would be

I didn’t even know it was a book tbh
Maybe the book is alright

Idk maybe I’m just cynical, my first thoughts were like, ohh so it’s like that movie gravity but it’s shit

Edit - I have heard of the Pulitzer Prize 😂
To be fair Hemingway got one for old man and the sea which sucked compared to his earlier stuff that didn’t win

And they gave one to Kendrick. But I suppose if you were to give one to a rapper you’d give it to him

But I haven’t read anything I liked for a while I’ve had like 3 shit books in a row from the library so I’ll look this guy up

I had heard good things about that headshot by Rita bullwinkel and I like good prose but I just couldn’t get into it, took it back
I think was first time never finish book, weird feeling

Headshot and Jim I both found lacking when compared to the hype and I read both before the acclaim.   Percival Everett is a guy whose works I like in theory but never quite impacts me when I’m reading them

Wasn’t trying to be a dick, just wasn’t sure if that award travelled.   Always try and catch myself from being to American-centric

Hemingway did get the Nobel which offsets the snubs for his greater works.   I’m starting to notice the prize does go to a lot of shorter works

Nah you’re all good haha, after I posted I was like why was I a dick about it
I had an extremely tedious day yesterday, and then some lady rang me to replace one tile in her bathroom and I literally said to her send me a photo and does it butt into a shower screen/is it in a wet area and she’s like nah it doesn’t so I gave price and I fucking went there at 6pm and it in fact did butt into a shower screen. I didn’t even tell her more money I told her to get fucked and left, I was a bit short last night

Should've still charged a call out fee

You’re not wrong, but unfortunately I am a tiler, we don’t charge call out fees but we definitely build them into the price. But if somebody is going to bullshit you on scope of works, that tells you all you need to know…they are a grub and they think it’s ok to attempt to exploit people. They’re not going to give you money for showing up and telling them to get fucked

In those cases you get the fuck out of dodge and change their number in your phone to ‘don’t pick up’
