I like Zero
I like some of the team, and have fond memories of watching some of the videos in skate shops, but Jamie Thomas’ art direction is questionable at best. A lot of his shit looks like stuff that you see on people’s shirts at truck stops in South Carolina or West Virginia. Fuck JT, Burman and Cole, though.

I think that skaters who didn't achieve greater fame after leaving Zero (or Powell) shouldn't count. So Marisa or Wade Burkitt aren't good examples.

I've always considered Think (post Drehobl) to be the most minor-league of teams - developing talent before their riders make it to The Big Show with another company, or even worse where players stick around to toil in obscurity (Danny Fuenzalida, Jake Nunn, Sean Payne...).

Think at one time or another had:
Duffman
Joey Guevera
Brain De La Torre
Liard King
Diego the Butcher
Lee Yankou
Bachinsky
and even love-to-hate-ems like Cody Mac and Manny Santiago.

These aren't all superstars, but they all moved on to greener pastures after Think.

Toy Machine has also farmed a lot of big names including Muska, Tysahwn, Bam Bam, and even the Chief.
toy machine is maybe the best farm team
Jerry & Ethan Fowler, Jahmal Williams, Caswell Berry, Alex Olson

Powell has been farming for decades.  Guy. Rudy, Salmon, Frazier, Caswell, Mike V 100 times.

Permission to leave sir

I just want everyone to know that I'm only 32.8% skateboarder, and that's on a good day. The rest is just soy and cum.

Zero seems more like a purgatory/ dead end to me.   Tony Cervantes,  James Brockman,  Lindsey  Robertson, Marisa Del Santo, Rattray, etc.

Is zero the new stepping stone?? They fumbled Dylan Jaeb, Hockeys new am Cruise Mosberg, John Fitzgerald, Tom K, Franky Villani, and I’m sure I’m missing some others.

Much like small market teams in sports, Zero is a glorified farm team for the bigger brands.

So yes, Zero is exactly like 2000s era Powell
[close]

Failed to see this side of it, but yea I can see the similarities between after you mention the 2000s Powell team, fucking Silas Baxter Neal used to ride for them

Speaking of Habitat, Powell tried to turn Suciu pro at 16 but he turned them down. && might be the best thing to happen to Powell since Mike V

Was it because he felt he was too young or because it was Powell? Pretty boss move if it was the latter

"I wouldn’t be surprised if I quit Habitat shoes before I was getting any adidas. That’s what I did when I quit Powell, they wanted to turn me am when I was 16 and I said, “You know, I don’t think I want to do it, I think I just want to look for another sponsor, but thanks so much”, and we left on good terms. For six weeks I just skated random boards, and then Josh Kalis got me a box of Alien boards. And from there I got on Habitat."

Ha! Suciu knew his worth. I wonder how many times that’s happened.

Yuto quit Blind after they wanted to turn him pro.

Could also add Dashawn to the Toy Machine list.

Im sure both of them (Zero & Powel) compensate their riders somewhat well. But they are not the end goal for pro’s who are trying to either make a long lasting career through skating or are trying to break into the fashion/ lifestyle brands that pay well.

Zero does not.

Aside from Edgelord, I don't think anyone is making 10, 5 or 3k a month from their board sponsor.

Ironically, probably Andy Anderson with Powell.

How tf is Edgelord making enough to pay anyone. Is it actually popular in the cities?

Zero is a farm brand as much as they put careers out to pasture.

Honestly you could be onto something with re-issuing boards prolly sell better…..I always think zero would sell well in other places like South America or Mexico or something….like Asia being into DGK….

As much as I hate current day Zero and think JT is a kook and James Cole is a garbage human, I'm not going to act like Adrian Lopez or Lindsay Robertson weren't awesome back in the day or that Dying to Live or Misled Youth sucked either.
