Personally I'd ban anyone under 16 from entering a contest, I don't care how many times they can spin on their board or what absurdly hard trick they can do. Their style almost always sucks and look at how these contest kids turn out.

It is weird, if a kid hucks themselves down something, it is super gnarly. If a parent encourages it, it becomes gross.

I suppose it comes down to autonomy and skateboarding is supposed to be a space for kids to grow up and learn on their own, not return to the traditional sports model of adults telling the kids what to do. Skate parents are annoying for sure. I've seen more than a few kids in tears as their parents yell at them to just go down with the trick.

I'm pretty anti-SLS, but it might be a stretch to say SLS promotes child abuse though.

I broke my ankle hooping when I was around this age. My coach made me keep playing on it and now it hurts to walk every morning and I can only skate for an hour before the pain gets overwhelming. If that kid’s arm doesn’t heal up right, he could be fucked for life. How can anyone think it’s OK for him to skate handrails!?

I dunno that kid can't be more than 9 or 10 max and has probably been skating for a couple years. I highly doubt he just got up one day amd decided to learn big spin front boards. Prolly some skate dad shit.

My boy is 9, loves to skate and scooter (his young and I’d prefer the scooter to sitting on a PlayStation all weekend).

He fractured his elbow at school, and no matter how much he wanted to go skate it was a big fat no from me!!

I said “you have the rest of your life to skate, if you fall on that elbow you again you could be screwed for life”!!
